@BuZz well that makes more sense. Never heard of that handheld though, looks like something I'd have wanted out of the Argos catalogue back in the day.

I'm aware of the favorites mod.

But I was looking for something more geared at collections like having all MARIO games in one section within ES

Thank you for writing back @meleu I think my "method" is somewhere inbetween. The fact is my non-merged full 0.37b5 romset (2241 roms) matches perfectly the 0.37b5 snaps (2241 snaps, a lot of work saved!) so what I do basically is:
    1.- add
    screenshot_directory = "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-mame4all/images/"
    to
    /opt/retropie/configs/mame-mame4all/retroarch.cfg
    2.- move roms to Retropie/roms/mame-mame4all
    2.- move snaps to Retropie/roms/mame-mame4all/images
    3.- run
    /opt/retropie/supplementary/scraper/scraper -add_not_found=true -append=true -download_images=false -image_dir="images" -image_path="images" -image_suffix="" -img_format="png" -img_workers=0 -no_thumb=true -thumb_only=false -thumb_suffix="" -use_ss=true -use_gdb=true -use_ovgdb=true -workers=4

Then gameslist.xml is created. I think those steps might be useful to users who already have a preference for snapshot packages.

However, I wonder what would be the best approach in the following scenario where there it no a rom <--> snap match:

    1.- add
    screenshot_directory = "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/snes/images/"
    to
    /opt/retropie/configs/snes/retroarch.cfg
Move all 3438 No Intro SNES roms (Nintendo - Super Nintendo Entertainment System (20161130-222348_CM).dat) to
    Retropie/roms/snes
Move all 3352 .png snapshots (No-Intro 20061119 Super Nintendo Entertainment System Screenshots.7z) to
    Retropie/roms/snes/images

One more problem, snapshots name do not match rom names but it is relatively easy to sort it out.
Eg. Actraiser (U).png versus ActRaiser (USA).zip
So I have run a number or find and replace to swap U for USA, J for Japan and so on. Once .png files match their counterparts in the roms folder, the same scraper command is run to generate gamelist.xml
In any case, it is clear that there are less snapshots than rom files so there will be roms without snap. Any ideas on how to find out (list) what are those roms?

PS. I am going to have a good look at that link. Thank you for it.

That was very easy and worked perfectly. Did see some improvements (and still some issues and even regression issues) so I know it worked.
I always just assumed the update from source was only liberto items / core retropie stuff. Thanks!

@mrbwa1 part of the lack of interest is there are relatively few exclusive Xbox games so most games can be played on a ps2 emulator

True. Most XBOX exclusives can be played on the Xbox 360 anyhow.

Also, I forgot to add that the original XBOX live is long dead, so anything playable is only for single player campaign or local multiplayer.

@asymptote I'm currently working on a metadata change to EmulationStation that will hopefully allow this to happen. It's quite a way off at the moment but watch this space...

@derebo I've more or less done that: https://github.com/HerbFargus/Mame-Extras

Though my gamelist are pretty simple being a human readable name and a link to the snap. It will be improved in the future to include more metadata

@Shakz I don't know how to launch RetroArch loading a specific saved state file. This feature is a must-have to start making it doable.

@Septcanmat you can create a remap file and load it on-the-fly through
RGUI > Quick Menu > Controls > Load Remap File

If you post the content of your /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/YOUR_JOYPAD_NAME.cfg maybe we can help you better.

Their reason for shutdown is a bit vague. looks like some law changed in some part of the world and caused their revenue to dwindle. Too bad but maybe one day someone will figure it out.

Certainly. I was going to make more visual additions to it. Not sure Kids would want to read as much so my plan is to include screenshots on how to shutdown, navigate, etc.

@LasagnaDevil You have provided no information about your setup as requested (Please do not post a support request without first reading and following the advice in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first)

Assuming you are on a PC, just do a basic install first - which installs the base set of packages, you can then install any extra ones. It's only something you have to do once.

PR is a Pull Request - when you contribute back to the project - You said "I don't think it'd be that hard to implement, honestly." so I said you could contribute back. I had assumed you based that comment on some internal knowledge of the codebase. Otherwise it doesn't mean a lot :)

    Thanks for your reply, Thak!

If I were to try lightgun solutions on the Pi, I'd use a Wiimote + gunmod + this:
    https://www.amazon.com/Mayflash-W010-Wireless-Sensor-DolphinBar/dp/B00HZWEB74

Then again... We might try House of the Dead 1 and 2, Daytona, Virtua On and many others via the emulation of their (lower quality) PC ports.

Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
