Maybe you did not install the USB HID quirks for Raspbian? It is a known issue with the older Linux kernels and is described here in the section "Installing USB HID Quirks for the GamepadBlock" at https://blog.petrockblock.com/2017/10/10/tutorial-gamepadblock-raspbian/.

Have you been able to set it up so that the reset button works as anything other than a power button? How did you hook up the power and reset buttons to the power block?

Doh, OK, re-running the script after rebooting fixed it. I must not have rebooted since updating the kernel version. Now I can run jstest /dev/input/js0and see the buttons work as well as shutdown view soft power switch and see LED indicate status.

I'm not sure if this post will be useful to others, but one never knows. In any case, the process of writing it out probably helped me figure out what went wrong.

I ran the installation with the new instructions and it still fails. I've tried both the standard install process as well as the quick installation. Each time I used a clean install of RetroPie 4.4

I don’t know the exact pi out of the pi2scart, but you can find the used pins of the PowerBlock at https://blog.petrockblock.com/powerblock-raspberry-pi-power-switch/:

S1: pin 12
S2: pin 11

If this does not collide with the pi2scart, it should work.

I have just pushed an update for the ControlBlock driver. You can now connect a button to P2, "A": Pressing that button will lead to a simulated press of Start + B, as well as a keyboard button press of "F1".

You mean you need a tutorial for updating or reinstalling the PowerBlock driver, right?

What you could try is to run

wget -O - https://raw.githubusercontent.com/petrockblog/PowerBlock/master/install.sh | sudo bash

from the command line to execute the auto-install routine of the PowerBlock driver (as described at https://github.com/petrockblog/PowerBlock#quick-installation). Maybe that solves your issue?

I just pushed an update for the ControlBlock driver. The four-player feature should work again now!

@paulkosm I think this is just the nature of the powerblock. The problem would be that the latching switch would still be latched in the on position (which is why you get a restart) and there's no way to automatically unlatch it. It might be more annoying to have to unlatch then latch again to turn the system on after a soft shutdown.

Personally I just use the powerblock switch to shutdown every time and never use the menu shutdown option now.

I know this is an old thread but I'm just getting into RetroPie (and Raspberry Pi's in general!)

@LeatherOtter Out of curiosity, did this end up working the way you expected? If so, I'm thinking the Powerblock might be a very easy way to modify my just arrived Retrflag NESPi case to make the power and reset buttons functional as expected. The Power button would just shut it down, and the reset button (which just momentarily cuts power) would cause a restart.

@darky2003 so you didnt get a square plastic piece to go on the shaft? this looks like one of the ones that would use a square piece for pressing the switches.

I would be more likely to learn direct gpio wiring than buy another piece of hardware if I really wanted to get my pitendo running recalbox. I was only a little curious about recalbox. Overall I have become dissatisfied with emulation on the pi in general guess my expectations were set incorrectly. Oh well it was a fun project and I learned a lot. Eh at this point I just might pony up the dough for an Analogue Super NT and be done with it. /end rant Anyway might as well lock/delete the thread not much for anyone else to learn or discuss here and my question was answered several posts ago.
