I find it good that it gets a bit more open and less strict than before. Since I started my RetroPie project, I did not really play much and when I did, I was very busy with those titles. But I am at a point where I start playing and looking for threads like these, to participate and discuss with others.

@mitu Actually, OpenGLES 3.1 should allow OpenGL 4.3+ applications. However, with OIT core needing better hardware than normal core (higher cpu freq), the overhead from the libretro API, and those maker boards already struggling with normal standalone reicast, i don't expect this core to run full speed on Odroid XU4. I could be wrong though.

I highly recommend splurging for a i-pac when setting up controls. I have a 2 player 6 button joystick setup, 2 start and coin buttons, and 4 misc button (exit emulator, pause, rewind, and config menu).

@VictimRLSH Btw, don't get confused with the Game Boy Mystic Quest (for you its named Final Fantasy Adventure). The SNES game you know as Final Fantasy Mystic Quest is known in Germany as Mystic Quest Legend. What the f...un Squaresoft?!

I remember that game very well, it was the very first turn based rpg we got on the SNES, plus it was localized (many games from that time was just in English). That time, I didn't know much about role play games and always wondered how they work and what that turn based fighting mean. At the 90s we rarely got turn based rpgs and every of them was like gold. In example, we never got any Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Bahamut Lagoon, Tales of Whatever, Earthbound, Super Mario RPG, Star Ocean, Dragon Quest, Ogre Battle , Tactics Ogre, Romancing Saga OR ANYTHING.

Thats why this game, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, is something very special to me. Even to that day, it was very easy and extremely limited and disappointing in gameplay with restricted party members and magic system and the world map. But that is ok. It might don't win an award for it, but it introduced me the concept. And it have a GREAT soundtrack, I like the dungeon and fight musics, still one of the greatest for the SNES. Looking back, its a shame we never got these games officially on the system. Probably translation was expensive and it was very risky, as jrpgs wasn't very well known and asked in Europe/Germany.

@VictimRLSH I tried the exagear demo on a "sandbox build" image of my regular gaming build. It did work fairly well, but it seemed like the install was too deep rooted into the system (just try fully uninstalling vs you'll see what I mean). I ultimately decided to not purchase it mainly because of their business model. Doing some research, It's closed source, which is okay if they were really vested into maintaining exagear, but the number one thing is the liscence is tied to the specific Raspberry pi you register it on - so when your board dies or you upgrade from 3b to 3b+ you must purchase a new liscence.

If the license was, let's say, $5 it may justify that bussiness model. It's a shame, they have something that would otherwise be huge.

I've been using a custom compiled wine through raspian to play Diablo 1, Diablo 2 with Lod expansion, & Starcraft Brood Wars. (Bonus - net play co-op) Unfortunatly, it required someone to compile the game..exe for arm but maybe with enough support they can get wine fully implemented to work just like exagear.

I just tried an OSMC build (because the version of LibreElec I tried first had no emulators preinstalled and I wasn't able to figure out how to get them) with Retroplayer because a few nights ago I also tested the Android and Windows builds.
OSMC has some Libretro Cores and I only tried SNES yet. But Beetle bsnes and bsnes-mercury crashed right away (Same for ScummVM by the way). I only tried Super Metroid and NBA Jam TE on Snes9x and Metroid had some serious slow downs starting during the Intro. NBA Jam had some minor graphic issues.
At first I also had some controller issues (wrong mappings) but I can't tell if I fixed that by setting the driver to udev or by manually installing the SNES controller profiles from the windows build (seems like the Kodi Addon Repo is broken on the OSMC build. I wasn't able to install anything from it.)
Otherwise I have nothing major to say yet. It still has no support for Metadata/Images yet, so currently there is just the default lists available.

I can't wait to see how well it will perform in the feature.

Edit: Deleting the Addons27.db file from the userdata folder solved the download issues from the Repo.

@barbudreadmon said in Delete this, please.:

A few years ago, someone made a faithful recreation of metroid 2 with 16-bits graphic... nintendo forced the author to delete it... i think the main issue is copyrighted characters.

That was definitely the reason. The same scenario has occurred quite a few times over the years, involving many different companies. I love a really good fan recreation, such as AirWalk Studio's 'Fix-it Felix Jr.' for example. However, the unpleasant fact remains that, even if they don't use the original code or assets, they're still infringing on trademarked characters and as a result are very much illegal. I've always seen the linking the Game&Watch recreations as being a big liability for RetroArch, but I suppose the gamble is that Nintendo won't bother to protect infringements related to the LCD titles.

One particular project that I hated to see shut down was an HD fan recreation of 'Mortal Kombat Trilogy' for MUGEN. Especially since Midway's own HD remake of the first three games was scrapped as well. It's off topic, but worth sharing Midway's leaked photos, as they're pretty impressive. They had actually completed filming most, if not all of the characters before pulling the plug.

    More can be found here.

@herb_fargus While it is not quite as simple as they advertise (and they do a LOT of advertising...) it does eventually work just by turning it on and then running your WIndows app. I'd say it is worth the money.

Well... it looks like PSX is probably a no-go for this laptop. I was hoping after what @dankcushions said about the difference between Beetle and Rearmed that I'd have better performance with Beetle, but the GPU on this thing must be pretty terrible since the performance in Beetle is absolutely terrible and the game speed is about half of what it should be or less (on Symphony of the Night). I'm actually very close to getting good performance out of Rearmed. The gameplay itself seems fine, but I can't seem to get rid of the audio stutter no matter what I do. Shame since everything else seems to be running so well now.

Oh well. This was still fun and now I've got another piece of equipment set up with RetroPie as a backup for my work and it greatly outperforms the Pi Zero in any case. :)

I strongly recommend the Wii U Pro controller. For the price of a generic clone, I don't think there is a better option out there, especially considering the 80 hour(!) battery life.

@madrikxiv I dropped a whole paycheck on a used Blizzard 68060 card and a 128mb memory stick, so that wasn't an issue. That card is still alive and kicking despite other problems my 1200 has had. Without USB, I had to transfer files using a hard drive, or burn them on a CDRW disk. I'd love to plug my 4tb USB drive into the 1200 and see what happens. LOL...

Never been a fan of first person shooters bar the odd exception.

I find 'beat em ups' such as Tekken very samey and boring.

Bit controversial but I can only play side-scrolling platform games such as Mario & Sonic in small doses too.

Other than that, i'm willing to give any genre a go bar sports that don't interest me such as NFL and basketball.

@thedatacereal All the best to you. Fortunately, we in Germany don't have storms of such magnitude very often (yet?), but nevertheless we had Nadine with hurricane level winds in some areas, and the occational flood in this year.

Today's news reported five killed by Florence so far, including a mother and her infant. This time, my preferred radio station mentioned Asia too, albeit only as a sidenote. 😕 According to other news, there's at least one dead over there … so far.
