Switched back to VGA and uncommented 'hdmi_force_hotplug=1' and it seems to be working great! We will see how the sound is when I hook up the amp and speakers, thanks everyone for the advice! Really appreciate it!

@BuZz not entirely sure, i played around with the settings as you suggested, then when I reset the pi the on-screen keyboard started working. I know the joystick cant work with every game but I've attached a keyboard as well so it all seems to be working.

@Dthruking I don't think this will work with the N64, since it's not a RetroArch emulator. Configuring the controller in Emulationstation will also configure the controller in Mupen64plus - the N64 emulator - so if it doesn't work as P1, you'll have to modify the configuration file - it's in the N64 emulator page.

BTW the vector games did work on the last binary so it may have been a core option affecting this. there has been some fixes since then though including some relating to the new vector code and the settings, but the last binary is not "old" (It's from the 11th October). I will update the binary though.

Thank you @BuZz if there are still problems with vectors in mame2003 after this binary update I will work to resolve them.

@mitu I'm using the latest image. I've just found that after doing an update though, it is gone from the themes menu.

I am having this same issue with my RPi0 and cannot find help anywhere. I have gone through the rigmarole you've been through with swapping out hardware. It has a fresh install of Retropie on a brand new memory card and freezes in E.S. when idle. I have done NO configuration and have yet to even add any ROMs. Once it's frozen at this point, I am not able to SSH into it to reboot.

Did you find any kind of fix to this?

Alas, I can't help you with that. But if you can't find information about ZDE internals, you could also try to find information about USB HID device specifications in general, as the encoders "just" convert the raw signals to those of a joystick-like USB HID.

Unknown sources doesn't mean only addons for pirated content, there are 3rd party legal addons also, which are not on the Kodi repositories, and you cannot install them without enabling that option. Even if he wants to install ilegal addons, it's his problem and no support will be given here.

Go to Settings -> System -> Addons -> Unknown Sources -> Enable

Just go to \\retropie\ and copy the roms folder to your desktop so you can can send it to any future pies.

@Dwarfboysim I only had problems when trying to scrape PSX media. After scouring the internet i found this scraper to be the best.

Just make sure to read the tut carefully. It can be installed via the rasp-setup but it can only be ran once emulation station has been aborted/quit.

You can either SSH/Use keyboard on pie to run it.

I can strongly recommend the Crush Pinball series, especially Alien Crush and Devil's Crush (Devil Crash in Japan) for the PC Engine / Turbografx-16. They're often mentioned as maybe the best pinball console games ever made.

Pinball Dreams and Pinball Fantasies are also worth a look. The Amiga versions may be the best because of the music, but the console versions are also quite good as far as I tested them.

I didn't notice any problems running any of them on my non-overclocked Pi 3b non-plus except for the Amiga versions, because I my Pi is only used for arcade and console emulation.

[EDIT: actually, it was Exec.bin.... for some damn reason the first letter was capitalized and even as I replaced it with other versions all in lowercase, it kept the first letter capitalized. I deleted and replaced it with an all lowercase exec.bin and it works now! Thanks so much!]

Ok, it looks like everything is working normally now that I put a Ethternet cable in the machine, and it was able to install everything. Looks like I need the Ethernet cable to do stuff.

Okay I tried reinstalling "advmame" from the source again as you suggested and now the permissions look like this:

First run with "1942.zip" is now working! Thank you!
