I am having an issue I have seen mentioned here many times without much of a clear answer,

Where ? I haven't seen this mentioned so frequently here. One thing that beginners are stumbling is the fact that only the P1 controller is able to run the hotkey enabled actions, but situations like P2 not working at all, that's not something that's reported.

To start, I configure both controllers in the Emulationstation UI. I have also configured both controllers in RetroArch UI and saved the profiles. I have done that step both from the RetroPie menu and on the fly from the game with a Rom loaded.

There's no need to re-configure the controllers in RetroArch if they've been configured in EmulationStation, the latter will take care of properly configuring the controllers for RetroArch.

Once the game starts however, I have no luck getting inputs from the controller on Port 2

Is this a 2 players game and you've chosen to start with 2 players ? Which game it is ? Does this happen for other systems also (PS1/NES/etc) ? Did you change the 'Device type' in the 2nd Port to something else from the RetroArch's ?

Dietpi on Orange Pi zero 2w.

    Thanks, I'll try!

For my N30, SN30 and my P30 mod kit. I'll update this post when tried. And I'm writing this to find the topic tomorrow evening 😉

Edit: I needed to activate the flashing status.
Followed the rest of your steps though. Did not successfully and stably connect the N64 mod kit yet.

Edit: Best ways of working to connect 8bitdo modkit Bluetooth controller with Retropie on the Orange Pi Zero 2w, so far…

    Do not install blueman-manager.
Do not connect via Bluetoothctl in the terminal.

Use Retropie Bluetooth menu to connect to the controller. Assure the /var/lib/bluetooth/MACADDRESS/ does not contain the controller device you wish to connect. Delete the controller file, and also from the cache folder, if any issues occur.

Hope this helps any future Dietpi users.

Can you run the following commands and post the output here in the topic ? If xpad is not recognizing the gamepad, we can try and force the driver to load is we know the device's Vendor and Product Ids

    lsusb cat /proc/bus/input/devices

Hello, I use this post as I want to use exactly same config (my pie is used as Home Asistant and collects datas).
I installed retropie using this. On Rpi5 and nvme.
    https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Manual-Installation/?h=rasp#install-raspbianraspberry-pi-os
Seems to worked fine as I can launch Emulationstation after ctrl-alt-f1. But if I try to launch a game (ex SNES roms) I have a black screen and I can't quit, need to reboot.
I did something wong ? forgot somethin ? Have I to uninstall and install ES with another method ?
    Thanks.

Given that now the splashscreen is using vlc instead of the (Pi specific) omxplayer video player, it could be possible to make it work with other boards, but right now it's not supported outside the Pi systems.

@mitu Wasn't sure if removing the override would break anything. Removed it today and its working fine. Thanks.

That's ok, since vlc tries a different number of display options and they're not available. Can you run

    dpkg -l | grep vlc

    and post the output ?

    pi@retropie:~ $ dpkg -l | grep vlc

@sugarfree thanks! Good to know there is a way to do this from the terminal window. I ended up following the instructions from this video to reset the emulation station input configuration for the controllers.

I suggest following the RetroPie wiki instructions on 4K resolution performance issues: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Pi4/?h=4k#4k-video-display

@Retrodade There isn't anything in the code I can think of that would cause that but I'll keep a note in case it crops up again. Glad it's sorted! :-)

I have seen similar graphical glitches with Driver 76. I get rid of them when I run the emulator with Vulkan enabled. Maybe this fixes the issue with this game. I am using Pi5 and bookworm 64.

    Solved

When I downgraded VLC to have faster video previews, it created the problem. Just re-use the script proposed by RapidEdwin08

    wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/RapidEdwin08/RetroPie-Setup/master/vlc-downgrade.sh -P ~/ chmod 755 ~/vlc-downgrade.sh ~/vlc-downgrade.sh

And select option 2 to re-install the original VLC version. Now you can re-install EmulationStation

Did you try updating EmulationStation ? The current stable release is 2.11.2, while you're still on version 2.10.1 from almost 3 years ago.
