    @kaixman Bubble Hero 2 appears to be a Windows clone of the arcade game, Bubble Bobble. You won't have any luck running Windows games on the Pi, at least not without a significant amount of work.

    I would suggest playing the original arcade game or the NES port. Here is a video of NES gameplay to check whether it's what you're looking for:

    The simplest option would be to drop the Bubble Bobble NES rom into the NES roms folder, restart EmulationStation and you're ready to play.

    Getting the arcade version requires more work regarding getting the correct romset for the emulator. The most straightforward solution is to find the 0.78 non-merged MAME romset and use the lr-mame2003 emulator. Place the rom bublbobl.zip in the arcade or mame-libretro rom folder. Restart EmulationStation and you're ready to play.

    For further information on MAME, the following are recommended reading:

    If you're happy with Bubble Bobble, it's worth checking out Bubble Bobble II (a.k.a Bubble Symphony) playable on arcade emulator, AdvanceMAME 0.94, and Rainbow Islands: The Story of Bubble Bobble 2, playable on arcade (lr-mame2003) or NES .

    What about the Uudo x86 boards?
    Could they run RetroPie?

    @baref007 I have same hardware. I'm working on a Python script to emulate keyboard inputs. I have some troubles with bluetooth (Pi3 connection) but they're quiet close to be solved. Let's keep in touch...

    I remember getting a bit longer bootup time after I scraped all my roms, I suspect this extra time would radically increase if all games have video previews?

    @ruxton_bruce the controllers use "input_enable hotkey_btn ="and you can assign the keyboard key to "input_enable hotkey =" then set both the exit key and hotkey on your keyboard to the same button. You will need to use the controller to get into the retroarch gui though since the hotkey and exit key are now on the same button.

    SOLVED: I was able to work around this problem by installing the experimental lr-MAME2014 emulator and using the most recent rom set I could find rather than the proper one with it. I don't know what they changed, but it appears to fix the issue!

    @meleu :)

    fbalpha is a maintained core (it has a number of programmers working on it) whereas mame2003 is basically mame exactly as it was in 2003, as far as emulation goes.

    fbalpha is also used in the fighting game community (i think it's the core of that online thing that was/is quite popular), so i would guess that most of the popular fighting games are running pretty much perfectly.

    so on that basis, i assume that fbalpha is the better one.. but that said, i use mame2003 for every 2d fighter it can do, and i've not noticed anything much, other than it not supporting certain rom hacks that fbalpha does. if i could wave a wand that would swap them all over for me i would probably do that, but it sounds a lot of hassle :)

    Solved: When writing the code for the .cfg that resides in the retroarch/overlay/arcade-bezels folder, you must reference the filename of the PNG overlay you are using. DON'T put quotes around that filename. For example:

    overlay0_overlay = robocop2-ovl.png

    NOT

    overlay0_overlay = "robocop2-ovl.png"

    It may work with, but some overlays will only work without quotes. Recommendation is just no quotes for all games :-)

    Every emulator from PS1 back to ATARI runs FULL SPEED on a pi 3 at 1080p. N64 SUCKS and anything newer isnt worth trying.

    I'm assuming you haven't even installed retropie yet? Just buy a raspberry pi and tinker with it.

    @pjft thanks! I did do the audio changes through the retropie menus in ES, no luck there. I will continue to test on that TV, but now I know it is a tv issue, it will be a low priority.

    The theme is coming along well! I have an update planned for this evening when I get a chance. I have it in 16:9 format now. Some nice improvements and some slight modifications that aren't as nice as the original 4:3, but it looks nice and is running more smoothly.

    Another benefit I found with the OMX player is that omx will hold the original format of videos, while vlc won't. Running the ES build with screenscaver we can't use maxSize but it doesn't matter, omx holds the ratio by default. Vlc will stretch the videos.

    Sorry - should have been cleared. I can see the main RetroPie screen and I can play the games listed. The problem is if I want for example to add or modify packages like Kodi and I choose the retropie setup sub option the screen just goes blank and stays like that. This only happens if I have retropie configured to boot straight to retropei / emulationstation. If I change it to boot to console and start everything manually there's no problem. Just trying to avoid having to blow it all away with a fresh install if it's something simple.

    @Capeman ... with DVI is the thing... I have a 5:4 at home, got for free and only 15" but works fine. 1 VGA port only. :(

    But 4:3 I was referring to TV's... figured get a TV with speakers and HDMI and save some time, wires and money but, old pre-widesreen TV's seem to be all pre-HDMI. See a rare one pop up but, oddly high in price or such a no-name brand I don't want to bother.

    I think I'll be going 5:4 computer monitor with DVI and buying a cheap/short cable. I'll probably go on local ad pages... I'm in Canada so, lot's of those sites that have great deals, I can't take advantage of because of ship/duty. :( Shame too because you're right, some good looking 4:3's there.... at least I can use the site to quickly find model numbers for searching. I have a Dell as my PC monitor at home, quality is great.
