@abhikapahi I'm using the official 7 inch and retro pie, both work perfectly. For many games the aspet ratio is incorrect as old school games ran at 4:3 but that's not the LCDs fault.

Good to hear. Now all we need is the ability to play video games while our video games are loading and we'll be set.

No. But the symlinks are there so that you can access the configurations in one place in /opt/retropie/configs/instead of having to find the configs in various areas of the home folder

I wouldn't worry about having lots of hidden symlinks - it's not a problem. You can ignore them.

@Bolthouse I use a 1280x1024 LCD in my cabinet and I think it works great. 4:3 would be 1280x960 with letterbox bands 32 pixels high on the top and bottom. You might try some of the libretro emulators to see how games look full-screen vs. 4:3. I like the barrel-curve shader with scanlines, so I want every pixel available. This would be 5:4, but I honestly, with the curvature I don't notice the difference.

Another consideration is this: If you will be playing any vertical games on the screen mounted horizontally, you might want to take advantage of all of the pixels you can--something that a physical bezel would prevent. You'd be limited to 720x960, when you could get 768x1024. Just a thought.

    Hello,

    Try this :

Plug a keyboard launch your Pi launch your game (mame4all?) press TAB

You will see a menu and you can assign control. (I hope)

Yeah you'll need to do that through the console on you Pi i believe. If you do something like sudo get https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit-Retrogame.git that should work... might have that syntax wrong but I'm sure someone will correct me.

    Good luck.

Ball's up on my part, had the key allocation arse about. Got it sorted now using gngeo and its working well. Doesnt seem to be full screen like lr-fba-next (slight border round the outside) but im sure thats in the settings somewhere so will get it sorted out. Not a massive issue if i cant.

Thanks very much for the help everyone. :)

I'm happy to announce that I have discovered the source of my problem.
So, I checked the key map file (/opt/retropie/emulators/vice/lib/vice/C64/sdl_sym.vkm) and I had found in its last line this:
    0 -3 1
which is the 'second RESTORE key' responding to the scan code 0. I don't know what does the 'second restore' mean, and I'm not sure what the 0 scan code stands for. I guess it somehow connected with the 'do nothing' action in the joy-map file (which is also 0 coincidentally).
Commented out this line and now I can shoot clouds with Loco, I can fire happily with WoW (which definitely stands for Wizard of Wor and not that new stuff), and... and I'm a happy man!

    Thanks for reading!

    Hi Pifan :)

Yep, it's the same project! But as much as I like the idea, things are not looking very promising so far. All solutions available are way too rigid it seems.

I am new to everything here. I did know about the key combination but assuming I don't it's a lot safer :P

I don't really need that many keys though. I do find it more elegant to have a dedicated key for the most used commands like save, load, quit/close and turn on/off. But another way of doing this is taking advantage of the key combination feature and wire a button that triggers the combination internally, no need for messing with software settings. Then I don't need to find a freakish control with more keys than usual.

@BuZz said in Disable all Console Text:

I haven't used attractmode yet - can't advise. You should ask @floob perhaps if you are using his image.

No I complied my own image since his has some issues on the RPi3, well on my testing anyway.
And I did ask on the AM forum but no reply. It's still running on the Retropie image along with EmulationStation, I can switch between the 2 by dropping back to the console.
Just when Advmame loads a rom it drops to the console , it's fine if no one knows how to hide the console after the frontend loads I can live with it. Just thought I would ask. ;)

Looks like it might have been a bad rom and I needed a better power cord... Replaced both and now it works.

@Rascas said in 8bitdo fc30 pro does not work in kodi:

In Kodi 16, you were suposed to configure only the d-pad, so only 4 axis lines with the corresponding ids of your d-pad. Something like this:
    https://github.com/HerbFargus/kodi-joypads/blob/master/keymaps/retrolinksnes.xml

In Kodi 17 you have to activate the Joystick Support in the peripheral addons. If after that your joystick still doesn't work, you have to report it upstream since I didn't touch the joystick support in Kodi 17.

sorry for taking for ever to try this stuff out just been a little busy.

in kodi 16 i have tried every single combination of axis and still was not able to get the dpad to work. i may just wait until version 16.2 as i can still navigate through the menu even though it's not ideal.

in kodi 17, the peripheral addon for joystick was enabled but the "configuration attached controllers" is still greyed out. I guess i'll have to report it upstream.

  • Does removing a ROM also remove scrape contents.

Interesting, I've kinda been deleting roms that I don't like as I go but it's so hard to keep track which ones I've wiped out. I guess those images aren't that big so probably not too much of an issue. It would be a cool clean up option though for a scraper to delete orphaned data.
