Thanks to all. I just bought a Pi 4. Mainly because it is more future proof. I will play around with Lakka for some time, waiting for Retropie to be fully compatible.

Your directions above worked perfectly, as expected and I reverted all of the configuration changes. And scummVM also works as expected.

Need more info..you updated Retropie completely? What version?

I suspect you didn't update retropie and packages after upgrading perhaps.

You can type emulationstation in a terminal to see if it throws any errors.

Sorry, just my honest opinion.

@bomberb17 For RetroArch/libretro based emulators (lr-mame..), the Select key should function as a 'Coin Insert'. If you're other MAME emulators (advmame, mame4all), I think you need to open the MAME input menu (pressing TAB on a keyboard) and manually map the key/button you'd like.

You mean instead of starting EmulationStation on boot ? If so, then edit the /opt/retropie/configs/all/autostart.sh file and add your own command before the emulationstation #auto line.
To determine which is the correct command line, you can use either the advice from the Docs or just start your game, then open /dev/shm/runcommand.log and see the actual command line used to launch it.

Do you have triggers? If so, set hotkey to one of them, as there are (one?) console(s) which use them. PS1/PSP (maybe). They are the least used buttons.

There are several things you could try. One is simply using a GamePadBlock.

Arcade big joystick or small controller joystick. If you have a big one then dpad. If you have a little one then right stick/left stick.

@windg i think that depends on the update and the starting point. they’re optional so it’s up to you when you update.

Wait, I got it. There was a boot to desktop option which I missed. Oops.

@IceChes1 It's the other way around. Ethernet is not slow. All my devices are hardwired from the router this way with 200+Mbps. Raspberry Pi Wifi is however slow. The 3B+ is slightly better performing in my experience on the wifi though. Glad you are now sorted.
