@mitu Thank you for your response. I've already seen those cases, however I cannot reproduce the same behaviour . The second like you posted does not help because I'm able to use the controller on ES. The first link I cannot really follow because when my Xbox controller AND the IPEGA controller are connected, both key mappings get really weird...

@shadowron If the OOM kicked in and the system crashed, then I'd say it's normal the log is corrupted.

Fixed by changing the audio driver to sdl2 in retroarch.

@dankcushions Thanks, that solved my problem!

I know GDI files are compressed to try and fit them on CDs back in the day. So you lose quality and sometimes complete audio I believe.

I don’t know much about the emulation for Dreamcast on the PI, but it looks like GDI is supported. I would try a different format personally.

@ninelives I've stumbled across this post since I own an IPEGA-9021 and I'm not able to play games with it on a raspberry pi 3b with retropie 4.3 posted my tests here. Had u had any luck?

Looks like I accidentally fixed it.

Yesterday I bound all the hotkeys to the same button, since that seemed to be the only way to "free up" the other buttons for normal use. Today I went back through the retroarch hotkey binding menu and re-bound the hotkeys to the proper buttons. Now they work! Button presses register as normal button presses during gameplay, and register as hotkey presses when the hotkey enable butten is also pressed. I tested on a couple different systems to be sure, and it seems that all is now OK.

I have to assume that something was wonky in one of the cfg files, and even though it was showing hotkey bound in the menu, it wasn't actually bound and that caused the problem like you said. I guess the act of manually re-binding them fixed the issue.

@mitu I loaded retropie onto the sd card, then rebooted. then I started back up and put in the USB to populate it with the folders. Then took it to my PC and added all the roms. Then plugged it back in. So no I am not running them off the USB. I just didnt know if I plugged the USB back in to add more roms, with the original roms removed, if it would remove them from the SD card

@mitu Thanks, that also was my first guess (although I mentioned it secondly ;) ), but the other options seemed probable, too.

@sturbek I dunno about turning off a USB port, but if you are using a powered hub, you could trigger that on and off via GPIO as you suggest. Nothing is built into RetroPie to do this--you're gonna have to build something from scratch.

@johnny5126 I am new to Vice having only installed it over the weekend.

The video tutorial above that I used to map my joystick encouraged me to Save current settings, Save hotkeys and Save joystick map each time I made a new mapping.

I followed this advice and when I looked at the Vice config files in /opt/retropie/configs/c64, I noticed that changes were only being made to sdl-joymap-C64.vjm and not sdl-hotkey-C64.vkm which was the same as when first created.

For your maps to the virtual keyboard, for example, you should choose Save joystick map for them to persist. You can check this by looking at sdl-joymap-C64.vjm and you should see a line like 0 1 0 5 Virtual keyboard.
