@cowguy27 i guess the first thing i should have had you try, open up the .cue file and make sure the .iso or .bin is named correctly to match the real file. So if the iso is named dRacuLa.isO you need make sure the inside of the .cue file matches that. On linux case sensitive is important. Even on the file extension.

@dankcushions Hey not a problem at all mate. I def wasnt trying to be pushy and I appreciate any assistance. At this point I'm using Save states (loading after a game starts and saving before I quit the game). Its an extra step at each end and to be honest its working well. We always want that little bit more hey. I'm thinking what if I went and did a fresh install of the entire Retropie....but as far as I can tell its not the Ras Pi or Retropie or any of that causing the issue...its seems more to be about how Reteoarch is working with data specifically in the realm of mame2003...I'm still leaning towards a permissions issue even though I've done as suggested...but maybe theres another way to ensure permissions...maybe using WinSCP ??? I may have misunderstood the original directions......so I expect a full reinstall would only send me back to the begining and may not resolve it at all...and I've made a few controller tweaks here and there and big scrapes...so Its hard to blow all that away.
So great if you get another look at it then that'd be awesome. Otherwise I do have a backup from a while ago that would save me a bit of time and i believe take me back to the days of game saving so if it all goes the hell thats where I'll head first.
Has me wanting a second pi to bomb up and see if I can sort it out then just swap it in.

    Thx again mate.

@Floob I have seen you replying to some 8bitdo Nes30 pro topics in the forum, any idea about what might be happening? I can only exit to ES from my N64 games with Sel+Start, and also if I try to load a previous saved state, it also exits to ES.

Question 1 sorted by getting no intro sets and cleaning it up manually, bit easier than regular sets.

Will bump this once to see if anyone has solutions to question 2

I think I have added an option to disable video sounds a while ago. Could you check if it's not in one of the menus? I know options were changed around a while ago, but the should be one such option.

@bowman I have never had to use any additional software for file access from my Mac to Pi3. I have always just used the Finder, Go menu etc.

That said, you may have a folder permissions issue that you could check using command line. It will be in your long term best interest to pick up some linux command line knowledge and try connecting to your Pi with SSH. You may need to use the pi config to enable SSH, but once done, you can get in using Terminal. Try ssh pi@retropie.local and use the password raspberryto login and now you can navigate with command line to check permissions, delete files that are not visible from the Finder, etc.

Or you could try resetting the ROM directory permissions using the technique in the FAQ. This would be a lot easier if it fixes things.

@chipsnblip good point. I also decided to go carefuly this time. updated setup script, manually updated core, uninstalled all optional/main packages I don't care about. then I started update of all installed packages.

no idea what caused the problem, but now it works. update took less than 2 minutes

@rbaker said in 2 player start button?:

What is in your retroarch.cfg file regarding player two controls? Did you add them?

Please answer this ^^^^^^^^^^ the file is located at /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg

do you see entires that reference player two?

    input_player2_a = "x" input_player2_b = "z" input_player2_y = "a" input_player2_x = "s" input_player2_start = "enter" input_player2_select = "rshift" input_player2_l = "q" input_player2_r = "w" input_player2_left = "left" input_player2_right = "right" input_player2_up = "up" input_player2_down = "down"

Have you read this with regard to /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads

nor does it offer a solution

It offered possible explanation......."Reading around the inter webs, it seems that that brand of joystick has general issues in Linux of all flavors. It may be that there is no good solution other than getting a tried and tested controller that is known to work well"

THe standered emulator works ok with slowdown and glitches. The other emulators ether back out or just get sound. IDK why. The guy reccemended one emulator but it doesn't work for me.
