For me personally, Quake 2 is my favorite of the Quake games. Most hardcore fans seem to look down on it but I really think its co-op gameplay was a particularly strong element.

  • Setting up retropie folders on mounted hard drive

    Thanks again. Success so far.

I redid the mounting for the external hard drive and now have it mounted to the Retropie folder and it appears to work correctly. If I have the drive plugged in on boot, the emulators show up and games work. If I boot without the drive, only the Retropie menu comes up.

I did have to manually set up the BIOS, retropiemenu, roms, and splashscreens folders and subfolders up in the root of the hard drive through Windows. I assume that is normal in this case (and hopefully I did't miss anything).

I have a few more folder questions:

Is the BIOS folder set up in the same way as the rom folder in that there are subfolders for each emulator (such as psp, psx, sega32x) or do you just toss all the bios files in that folder? I see that the images by default are located in /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/downloaded_images. Any suggestions on what to look at to store the images on the hard drive instead? Using Sselphs scraper perhaps?

Also, what triggers retropie to generate a new gamelist.xml? Is it when the scraper is run?

Regarding your issue with the GBA BIOS, you may have to try a few before you find one that works. Also, the md5sum is noted here to compare against your own.

I don't have the BIOS? Where do I get it from?

Please read the forum rules. You cannot ask where to find ROMs and/or BIOS files. Also, you asked this same GBA question here yesterday. There's no need to have multiple posts for the same issue.

@weiserlinker as @herb_fargus stated, it is probably a header issue. Try downloading a few roms from another site.

@mrgibby yeah i think dispmanx was fixed to respect the swapchain setting, and now the following applies:

    Note on video_max_swapchain_images setting
When using the OpenGL ("gl") video driver, this setting switches between using two or three buffers for rendering. Without going into details, a setting of 3 allows the emulator to run ahead and prepare the next frame before the current one has even been shown. This improves performance (i.e. makes framerate hiccups less likely), especially on slow hardware, but increases input lag by one whole frame in the general case.
So, the general rule is to use a setting of 2 if the system can handle it. It will shave off one frame of input lag compared to the default setting of 3. Please also note that a setting of 2 forces vsync on.

i guess in this case the system couldn't handle it :(

The Pi 1/0 utilize armv6 processors and the 2/3 use armv7. The images are optimized to accommodate the difference.

Can you run N64 games properly on mupen64plus ?

i'm not sure any n64 game runs 100% full speed with no glitches, but i regularly use mario 64 in my testing and apart from a few specific areas it seems full speed.

nice, thank you very much for the info ;)

@Sheldon25 said in PS4 controller, right analogue stick wont work at all:

@darthlink If you adjust the mappings in emulation station differently than how the controller is supposed to be set up, the emulator will not read the controls correctly and it will make it more difficult to figure out why the controller is not working correctly.
Another poster asked, and is still awaiting an answer. What emulator are you using to play quake 2 and soul reaver?
Do you have a ps3 or xbox controller to test and make sure that it is not related to your settings being messed up?

My ps4 controller was mapped via the emulation station input set up and both analog sticks work on n64 games, kodi, moonlight.

I am using the PS4 controller only and i am usung the lr-pcsx-rearmed emulator for PlayStation 1 games.

I had also setup my controller via the emulationstation setup menu. I have not reverted it like i know i can. So far it is still as its suppose to be, Analog with analog and D-pad with D-pad. I was just mentioning it because i know it works this way if i setup the left or right analog stick instead of D-pad but it only transfer the problem to witch ever analog i may setup as the d-pad.

    @tlanks

Things are rarely this simple, but are you sure that you made the script executable?

    chmod +x /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/pc/game.sh

Also, seeing as how you're simply launching DOSBox with your script, does the included /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/+Start\ DOSBox.sh not suffice?

I wound up noticing that Retropie fails to give you plugins that have not been around for longer than 7 years

not true. for example, GLideN64 was first released in 2015. it's still in development now (and is actually by the same developer of glide64mk2, so could be considered glide64mk3 i suppose)

Hey I am having the EXACT same issue. So did you Filezilla in and remove the extra "input_player_1" entries? Ive been messing with this since Saturday. I also had this issue with an afterglow xbox 360 controller.

    Pi: 3 B
    RetroPi: Latest 4.0 build
    Controller: NES30 Pro
    Firmware: 4.0

    so same specs as yourself.
