Rpi USB audio woes and other zombies.
-
Yeah i don't know why but the sound still won't work.
Not even being detected now.
odd. -
I think this usb hub may have a dead port.
-
Nope.
tested usb chip in pc.
hub port works.
just not detected. -
Ahh it's the sound chip.. it died.. detects on my pc for a few seconds then stops working.
-
Ok so i replaced the sound card.
Then chose alsa:hw:1,0 as the chip is listed there
Then chose Master.
Still no sound.Then increased the volume.
Still no sound.Rebooted.
Volume reset to 0 by itself.
Increased the volume again.
Still no sound.if i set the volume and exit the menu and return it sets it back to 0
-
@Hex
Sound volume drops to 0 the moment Speaker or Master is selected.
PCM does not drop it to 0 -
@Hex When launching any thing i can see the cli where it's launching, i see:
lvl0| VolumeControl|::init() - Failed to find Mixer Elements!
-
After googling online i see no one has provided this much info.
But no one has solved this ever.
Starting to lose hope on this one. -
Can you do a clean format, choose Speaker and ALSA:HW:1,0
That should get it working.I would like to point out to you that if I have not replied you can edit your previous comment to include additional information. No need to create multiple posts. I am sometimes working on code and dont visit the site.

@hex
Will i need to update?
Sorry keep forgetting about the edit function.If i need to update. "because you need to update to see the sound options"
Then i have done this twice.
Both times had the same result. -
@Xeon I am asking if you can do a clean format. As in wipe SD card and re write retropie image.

Ok each time.
I did do a proper format.Download source.
https://retropie.org.uk/download/But lets do it again.
I will also do a fresh download and check the MD5 hash.Formatted and partition wiped.
MD5 Compared
Image freshly written and verified.
What is the next step?
-
Boot your Rpi with usb sound card connected.
From ES select Speaker in volume control and ALSA:HW:1,0 as omx device. Close Settings menu. Open Settings menu again and verify that volume level is saved properly.
Thats all that is needed. Let me know if it works.
-
@hex
The only options in sound settings shown are:System Volume
Enable Sounds
BackNothing else.
What next?
Btw this is really hard to see on crt or Video display had to wait for the display to dim to take this pic. -
Thats not possible. What are you running this on ?
Edit : You are possibly running an older version of ES. Can you update from binary and check again. You should be running 2.5 and up to have this option.
-
@hex This is the un updated image as seen on the downloads page.
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/releases/download/4.2/retropie-4.2-rpi1_zero.img.gz
I did no updates.So should i only update ES?
-
Yes jut update ES from binary. It should update to 2.6 which has the options.
-
@hex
No wifi will not connect.
Even used wifikeyfile.txtRetropie....
in a nutshell.
So now i am fresh flashing again.
-
From the constant reflashing... the card is now screwed.
I think i'm done.
Will rather do a project that does not involve a Rpi board -
I dont know how I can help you anymore. I followed the exact steps and got my piZ working with usb audio
Edit : Do you have any other sound card you could try this on.
