Another RetroPie Incident (Maybe?)
-
I'm gonna sum this up quickly.
Basically, Unbox Therapy uploaded a video about a portable video game console called the RaspiBoy. But here's the thing; It comes with RetroPie pre-installed as well as a bunch of games with it.
Now later on in the video he says that he got it in the full package, but customers will get the entire thing, except for the pi.
I just want to let the community know this because I do not know if this is an issue or not.
Here's the video:
Thanks.
Also make sure to let the admins know ( @herb_fargus, @BuZz and @petrockblog] -
You can tell how noobish they are when they don't include arcade roms because finding the correct romset is rocket science :D
-
@itsnitro as far as I understand they don't include the software...
Some others have received it and I am still on the fence about getting it perhaps they can tell us what was included when they received it.
Post for reference:

All the same I'm not a fan of unbox therapy. The defacto YouTube clickbait rubbish. We don't need or want the publicity.

@herb_fargus
I received mine a few weeks ago. No software was included on the SD card. The maker, Pierre, has been very vocal about not including an image. Not sure where Unbox got their image. If you're on the fence about getting one I say go for it. It is a small screen, but definitely fun to play. -
Same here, Early bider on this, received a few week ago.
You've got the Case + PCB + Screen + batterie + 8Gb SD card.
And this SD Card is formated... nothing on it... you must add a PI0 and install yourself a Retrogaming distribution (like Retropie or Recalbox.)
I haven't seen the video yet, but if he says Raspiboy is sell with some software, he is completely wrong... (so you can be dubtfull for the rest ^^)
Too few project with "Licence respect" so I need to defend this one ;)
EDIT :
After checking quickly the video, I think it may be a "special" version for review...
The Raspiboy is already constructed with the extra usb port and the PI0 in it (and obviously the Retropie Installed)...
Maybe Pierre send some pre-constructed kit for some review.
Or unbox therapy is unfair and don't really unbox this one ;)
If you want to see a good review on this, I prefere this one : -
Unboxed Therapy received his unit already set up for review purposes. The only way to change SD cards is to take everything apart to get to the SD card. Assembly is not difficult but does take time to get everything in the right place to close it up. Took me 30min total. Im sure Pierre sent one without all the hassles.
-
Alright, so Pierre isn't a bad guy and is just giving Unbox Therapy a review version.
But could this be an issue anyway? Should we go contact Unbox Therapy about it? -
@itsnitro i dont think he violated anything. It is like you making a pi for your buddy and not charging him for it.
-
I am pretty sure he said that the device came assembled and with software only for review. It was not sold to him. Users buying will need to assemble and install Retropie.
-
Nothing wrong here just a hardware supplier, imho
