Volume control init()

Hi there!

I have a problem with my sound. Yesterday everything worked fine. Sound in games was good but today I have some strange noise every time a sound is played. The noise is in menus when I scroll through my roms and in every game. As I wrote, it is there every time a sound is played.
When I restart EmulationStation the message:
Volume control init: Failed to find mixer elements
is shown.
Does anyone know how I can fix that?

sorry ... of course it is very helpful :-)
Pi Model: 3b
Power Supply used: 2,5A
RetroPie Version Used: latest
USB Devices connected: USB HDD (with extra power), Keyboard, XBOX 360 Controller (wired)
Error messages received: see first post

Sound was ok till yesterday and i don't use any external soundcards, just HDMI.

let me know if anything else is needed!

try changing the audio device in Sound Settings from the emulationstation menu, you may need to reboot between changes. refer to this guide in the wiki for further troubleshooting steps: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-setup/wiki/Sound-Issues

i would also test a different HDMI cable as well
