Sorry but thats totally not true at all.

Sorry, but if you were to buy that kit from eBay (more like 50USD, and don't forget shipping), you'd still need nearly $200 in other parts to start getting close to a quality build.

Can you please do links like hxxp:// when posting links to sellers etc - even though the links have nofollow tag, I prefer not to possibly help their ranking etc.

If they are including a RetroPie image, they are in breach of the emulator licences. Whether or not their hardware is a good deal .

Dude, I posted the entire list of all the extra parts you need. It's around 50-75USD at max.

You forgot some essentials like LCD screen, speaker amp, battery, battery charger/5v amp, power strip pcb, pi zero, headphone jack... probably a dozen more things.

It may not cost $350 to make but it sure as heck doesn't cost "less than $80".

I agree that no one should have a business built around pre-made retropie builds, but selling these for $350 isn't that far fetched because it's absolutely not just a pi zero in a gameboy case. This is a boutique item that requires an amount of craftsmanship. There are people that recognize that and will gladly pay for it.

              Screen = around 40 euros.
Speakeramp: couple euros, could be created with a couple passive components should cost less than 50 cents.
              Battery charger 5v 5amp: 11USD via alibaba.
              Pi zero: 10USD
Headphone jack: lol are you kidding me? Costs literally 30 cents.

And no there are not a couple other dozen things. Stop making lame excuses to try to make it like you're right because you really aren't. People who sell this overprices crap are just making lame excuses.

Electronics is my hobby, I create PCB's, design new schematics, if someone tells you that components are expensive he simply has no clue what he's talking about. Yeah sure 200euros for craftsmanship lol. For that price he's asking I can get a brand new Nintendo Switch. This guy is just an another guy who wants to make a quick buck.

You pretend like all those items I mentioned are expensive lmao. Stop sticking up for these kind of people.

someone posted in the subreddit about their gb being $350. Maybe advertisement or idiot.

On a side note, I was interested in the mintypi, but i felt the parts and 3d printed parts were way too expensive. Asked a friend about what he thought about the 3d printed quality+ pricing and he just started laughing. Cheap 3d printing and overpriced, which made me think the custom pcb's were just as overpriced.

These guys have not specified if it comes with Retropie or with any games what so ever. Please post pictures if they have or if you have ordered one and it came with Retropie. Without that criteria you cannot call them Retropie seller and Retropie cannot file a copyright infringement.

EDIT : @BuZz Apparently the manual links to Retropie's github page for more info

Of course they are very careful not to mention explicitly what they are selling it with. Doesn't change he fact that they are willfully infringing on the licences of the emulation software included with the retropie image.

lol what a comeback! Out of arguments? Nah, I'm not a fan of handhelds.

offtopic: I don't know from where you buy your components but if you buy them from a local store they're always expensive. Online they're way cheaper. I used to get all my electric components from a local store, I used to pay 15 cents per resistor. Sounds cheap but if I needed 100 resistors it would cost me 15 euros, online I can get 100 resistors for 1.50euros.

@petrorie i built a gameboy zero and not counting all the many parts we 3d printed ourselves it was somewhere between $150 and $175 usd. There is a lot of dremeling and filing involved. A lot of trial and error getting the gameboy cartridge sd card mod to work properly. A lot of work getting the lcd to not out put a terrible quality signal. Lots of work with the 3d printed parts to mount everything. I have made hundreds of modded systems and arcades and this was one of the harder one to do. You may not feel that the work is worth what he is charging but many people would gladly pay that to not go through the hell it takes to build one of these properly. I am not trying to justify him selling it with retropie on it but i can understand the cost versus parts and labor. If i built and sold them without retropie myself, i would probably ask about $300 do to the labor involved in making one.

You can ask anything you want for the product you're selling, my main point was when the other guy claimed that the components are expensive which is totally not true.

I'm not a fan of 3d printing, most models I've seen look cheap, you can see all the lines on the finished product. I've seen a 3d model polisher but it's expensive but I admit using that polisher makes your 3d printed artworks very nice.

I'm planning to build a SNES mini using an aluminium case. The case will be CNC milled in China, I still have to make a 3d model with all the components, cloning the original reset and power button, cartridge which is going to hold the SD card, mechanism to keep the cartridge in slot while it's on (just like on the SNES) the carts will be custom made so I have to create a 3d model of it first. Custom PCB's I will create myself, I can create them with the protective green layer and silkscreen on them.

You said you need to dremel out stuff out of the 3d printed case, why not correcting the new adjustments in the 3d model? If you own the 3d model you could simply modify it before you print it.

@edmaul69 The craftmen work isn't the point imho because it is a hard job todo. You should ask... would the creater get the 350$ if the RetroPie image isn't ready setted on the SD?

I think a nice "deal" for both sides would be if he sell his items for 350$ but gives 10% to the community - but this is illegal but would contribute the work of the devs here

                                My point of view is...

                                Success has many fathers!

How is success definated? Money? Knowledge? Veneration? Life? Redemption? Freedom? Fun?

So it's a shame that only one person wins the whole money price! But that's the reality we have to accept.

@herb_fargus Not to accept ... but it does not help to just get upset. There are some people that thinks they are smarter than others - that's the reality we have to accept. Call them selfish...
Usually I don't step in into such discussion, but if someone pays so extremly much money for such a device.... Some people really have to work hard for that!

@petrorie i didnt 3d print the case. I had to 3d print internal parts. I absolutely hate the look of 3d printing. I would never 3d print an external part that is visible.
