Obtained My First RP Handheld, have a couple of questions (Battery Icon/Indicator)
-
Wow 350$!! Regarding your intensive money expenditures you should read this thread
-
@lordkramgb that is one expensive unit!
Check out the https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first there is a list of information that is normally requested by people to be able to answer queries. If you don't know the answer to these questions, any attempt to help is going to be difficult.
If the device came with Retropie preinstalled, asides from being in breach of the licensing of much of the software, then it is unlikely that anyone here will be able to support it. We don't know what modifications have been changed from the stock image, and neither would you be able to know (e.g. what screen is it using, how is it connected, what is the control pad interface, what additional software has been installed to support it, etc.)? I suggest if you are going to need that level of support, you are going to need to contact the person who sold it to you and get support directly from them.
Regarding the battery indicator: Unless someone has created some circuitry to do such a thing (I've not seen anything), the battery is connected similarly to a power bank being plugged into a mobile phone. The Pi doesn't know anything about it, only that it is receiving a charge.
With regards to trying different SD cards: How are you trying to use the SD card? Are you writing the stock image from the website to the card? You will need to be using the Pi 0 image, but there may be additional software required to support the display.
We can try to help, but only so much with a device like this.

Thanks for your replies
I know it seems a lot of money, but it was the cheapest I could find for that type of unit (and in the UK), and I sold an older games tablet to pay for a portion so its not so bad :)
I ended up putting a 64gb card inside, and installing my own fresh retropie on it, i'm copying over roms etc now
Think the reason my 128 cards weren't working is they weren't compatible as soon as I put in the 64gb it booted first time
Only problem I may have is getting the scraper to work with all the roms I will put on the card (until I fill it up) otherwise I think its working pretty well :) -

@lordkramgb Dude, you could create the same build yourself and save up nearly 250 euros. You can get free gameboy 3d models, original buttons can be found on ebay for very cheap. Even the original gameboy shell costs 10 dollars.

@lordkramGB Please remove the link. It is against community rules to promote copyright infringing urls. Doing so jeopardises RetroPie which shall not be tolerated.
Also be aware that support shall not by provided to such users who buy Retropie products and come here for free help. If you have problems go back to the seller and ask for support.

I can understand that I can't assume I will get help when purchasing something from elsewhere, but not being funny but how is posting an ebay link prmoting copyright infringement url?
If Ebay thought it was infringing rules, they would remove it surely?
I'm not being an di** just wondering why -

it is against the license to include retropie in a sold product: https://retropie.org.uk/about/legal/
If Ebay thought it was infringing rules, they would remove it surely?
lots of illegal stuff on ebay! if you ever try to report an item, you'll find it very hard to do so - you have to be the copyright holder of the property in question. if you're not, ebay (and a lot of other places) don't seem to care.

@dankcushions What's the Retropie license? I tough it was GPL 3.
-
Ok apologies, I don't want to disrespect anyone, so if you need to close this topic, please do :)
-
@uzanto have a read.
-
@herb_fargus I've already seen it and it says nothing clear about the specific license, the script is GPL3 and you can sell any work licensed under GPL3.
I imagine that the image itself has another license not free, but I do not know which, that's why I asked.
-
@uzanto people aren't selling the script, they are selling the image which cannot be sold due to the non commercial emulators. We originally had the script non-commercial and we should have kept it that way but regardless of what we do greedy dbags will continue to rip off the project.

read the link. the image is a collection of software. some software has non commercial license. therefore you can't sell anything with the image

I don't want to start any arguments so if a mod can delete this whole topic please?
