So I've been using RetroPie for a while, and this only happened recently. In every NES emulator, every Atari 2600 emulator and every MAME emulator I have been getting some sound and it only appears for split seconds at a time and mute. I've tried using hdmi_drive=2 but still no luck. I am using an HDMI cable by the way, which hooks up to an HDMI port on a Roku TV.

@ep in emulationstation in the main menu there is a volume control. Make sure it is at 100%

That's not the problem, tried it as well. I'm going to do a sound sample on video so there is more clarification.

It sounds like the sound is cutting out completely, it's possible it could be hardware related.
You say you have it hooked up through a roku TV, have you tried connecting directly to the TV to rule out the Roku being the problem? It may also be worth trying a different HDMI cable to rule that out as a cause.

It is a Roku TV using HDMI and the sound barely works on RetroPie. You can watch the video and it will have audio samples.

@ruckage The entire TV is a Roku on itself. It's made by Insignia.

In that case first try a different HDMI cable. If it still doesn't work try it on a different TV, that way we can narrow down where the problem lies.

Can you fill in the details requested from the https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first as @glennlake has already requested. By failing to do this, it is making it very difficult to diagnose.

If changing the HDMI cable worked at first then that suggests it could be a problem with the hdmi socket either on the PI or the TV. Do you have another hdmi port on the TV that you can try?

I think it would be useful to note that the menu plays noises perfectly and the video goes extremely smooth.
