Love this idea.

I've been meaning to setup a x86 machine. Just gotta wait for my dad to get his hands off of his old computer.
Just see how much space he's got left on there and set up a dual boot...;)
-
@fruitybit I'll tell you this, if I did that. Well...let's just say I won't be turning 17 next week :)
-
I've not been compelled to buy a N64 as the library leaves a lot to be desired, but now I must check it out again.

Actually the bday present is me playing a N64 game because of you. :-)
I have a little dislike for this system. But, as I never played any N64 game seriously, maybe it's just a unfair preconception. Will try more fondly this time.
Same here, I never liked the N64 it had a few good games but I had more fun on the PS1 back in the days. If I could choose between the two I would choose the PSX, it had a better game library. The N64 game lib is very poor compared to the PSX game lib.
Super Mario 64 is a great game, I still play it on the Pi3 it's one of my favorite N64 games, it runs fine without any tweaks with on the libret emu.

Same here! I've played the N64 several times but this remebered me of graphics explosions and a awful controllers. As the RetroPie on Raspberry3 is not the ideal platform for the N64 - the gamechoice is a bit unfortunate but I like the concept of a Cheevos-RoM

I'm afraid that a random game for a month is risky - regardless if it's for cheevos or not. If the randomness choose a not very enjoyable game we're doomed to wait until next month...
For a monthly gaming I think that choosing a good one is important. ;-)
-
@meleu Well I prefer the casual gaming style - so I like the MAME ROWs even if 3-4 days for playing the choosen game is sometimes a bit to short breathened. So I think the timeline of 1 month for collecting achievements is good.
Noone is forced to take part on next round: Think about long players like Terranigma ... 1 month is to short for this. ;)
The question is: How to choose the right games?
As we talked about three games - would they fit in our case?- Gargoyels Quest: 1 month is a bit to long for this. I think GQ gameplay all in all is 10h
- Snake Ratlle 'n' Roll: Unbeatable ;) Sorry - this game is so freaking tough! This will take several month to beat
- Bonanza Brothers: That was really fun! Also the 2 players part is nice, so yes I would advice this as Cheevos-RoM
RoM =! Random of the Month ;)
RoM == Recommendation of the Month :)
Or do you think SoM = Selection of Month sounds better?
-
@cyperghost I liked the acronym @lilbud chose: GOTM. :-)
IMHO there's no need to be a long game. The selection being on a monthly basis is good because not everyone has free time to play at the same time. Some will play at the beginning of the month, others will play later. And we'll have a thread to share tips/fun facts/talk about the game for a month.
The person who choose the game setting a challenge adds more fun to the GOTM. My proposal is that the first person who accomplish the challenge chooses the next game, and the person who chose the last GOTM doesn't choose the next one. If no one accomplishes, we can get suggestions and set a poll.
You guys know that I'm a RetroAchievements enthusiast... The achievements list of a game gives some good options of challenges to set for the GOTM. As the site stores the time when a person got the achievement, it would be good to check who was the first one who accomplished the challenge. (Also choosing a game that has cheevos increases the chances of me participating. :-) )
Here are links for the game list of each console supported in RetroAchievements (note: these lists are always growing, as cheevos developers create new cheevos for new games):
- Games with achievements for Mega Drive
- Games with achievements for Nintendo 64
- Games with achievements for SNES
- Games with achievements for Gameboy
- Games with achievements for Gameboy Advance
- Games with achievements for Gameboy Color
- Games with achievements for NES
- Games with achievements for PC Engine
- Games with achievements for Master System
Tagging some guys that I believe would be interested in this:

So I guess I'm picking the November GOTM:)
-
@lilbud oh! Forgot to mention: The person who chose the last GOTM doesn't choose the next one. :)

Here is a list of rules for this and all future GOTM's

Haven’t played this game since the year it came out. Can’t think of a better time to pick it back up!
-
I've actually never played Super Mario 64, but I've seen people play it. Maybe it's cause I was born in the 21st century. I also need to rev up my raspberry pi again, seeming as I haven't been online for the past month or so.

@itsnitro
-
@lilbud Oh man... I swear I tried. But it's not an enjoyable game for my taste... Sorry.
I hope other guys join. And maybe next month we get something more "retro". ;-)
-
After lots of digging, I found my proof
Super Mario 64
Played on Wii VCBeaten with 34 stars
-
@meleu Sorry to hear that, maybe next month will have a better game.
-
I haven't had time to beat it, but I've been playing!
-
I’ve never been able to get N64 games to work even kind of ok on a Pi, and I didn’t buy a N64 yet, so I’ve not been able to play. Hopefully next month’s game will be one that we can play on a Pi, since this is a RetroPie forum.
