Neo Geo X Build

@linuxarcadeguy
Depends what your expectations are when you say 'completed'. I only ever planned to support NeoGeo and Capcom with this theme, though since then I've also planned to add a general arcade section as well possibly a default theme so it can at least support everything else.
Regarding 4x3, I can do that but it's not a simple case of changing some settings, I would have to do an entirely separate theme. I don't mind doing that but it will obviously take a bit time so it really depends on how quickly you need it. I'd also really need to know what resolution display you are using as that can affect things.Regarding launching directly into a games in ES, that's not possible - the carousel always goes directly to a gamelist, it's just how it works.

I scrolled through this thread a little too quickly and if I missed it I must apologise. However, is this theme available to download as it looks loads better than any other that I've seen. It's got that professional look about it and fits an arcade build very nicely. I've got a neo geo section on mine as well as an arcade classics, cps1 and cps2 so this would fit really well with my build.
-
Sorry, the downloads got a bit lost. I'll edit them into the first post so it's easy to find in future.
The theme only supports Neogeo and Capcom at the moment and it's not as simple to set up as most themes. You'll need the marquees to make this work as well. (replace your scraped marquees with the images in the marquee zip).

Hi, I replied to you specifically a few posts back, you need to give some more info, I'll paste the reply I made to you:

@ruckage awesome thanks

@ruckage sorry ruck, i guess i missed that reply in the shuffle, thats what i mean completed, the capcom, neo-geo and general arcade is perfect, as for the 4:3 info i am using 2 monitors on 2 different setups both support max res up to 1280 x1024. as for time frame... by end of october.
as for launching directly from ES, i guess ill have to use AM for that project.

Hi, I wondered if I could have some advice. I've copied your theme @ruckage and I've adapted it for my arcade build. I've changed it to show the box art when you scroll through each game, and then a fraction of a second later it loads up the video preview. However, for some reason my box art is maximised, so it fills the preview window. I'm not very good with themes, so I don't know where in the neo.xml file I have to change to get it not to maximise my artwork. For arcade classics I'm not too bothered, as it shows a screenshot and then a video preview, as I wasn't able to scrape every single game poster so I dropped the idea.
Also on a side note for some reason, all my wheel art seems to be really huge and some of them fill the entire width of my screen. My resolution is set to 1024 by 600, which is the max on my set up, i'm only using a 7 inch display. I did find some really nice looking marquees which I was going to use, but I had the same issue.

@ballboff
This is a very specific theme, it's only designed for landscape neogeo and Capcom arcade games using screenshots or video previews which are scaled to fill the window, it was never designed to show boxart. The whole look really relies on that preview window being filled.Regarding the wheel art/logos, did you use the wheel-art that I provided a link to? The theme is designed to work only with the wheel-art I provided which are all scaled to a set size to work with this theme- it's unlikely to work with scraped marquees.
-
@ruckage ok no worries. I thought i'd try and I thought that would be what you had to say on it. I totally appreciate where you are coming from. It makes more sense and looks a lot cleaner that way I guess. I might scrap the box art idea and display a screenshot instead, it would look better that way and a bit more seamless.

@ballboff
Screenshots should look perfect (providing it's not a vertical game as they will be stretched). If you're using video previews as well I would use shots of the title screen.I realise this a very restrictive theme but it was designed solely for my Neogeo build originally and to accommodate different shapes and sizes of artwork would likely compromise the overall look.
I do want to add a general arcade system and at some point would like to add some custom collections for various genres so maybe I'll do a special vertical collection with the window setup specifically for vertical games, at least then it should work well with all arcade based games.

@linuxarcadeguy
I've made a start on a 4:3 mode, still a lot to do though. It currently only works correctly in true 4:3 modes (800x600, 1204x768, 1440x1080 etc.). 1280x1024 isn't 4:3 , its 5:4 so that will require additional changes to work correctly. I have some free time over the weekend so will hopefully be able to work on it a bit more.Here is a preview shot of the 4:3 version running at 1024x768:

Hi Ruckage,
i wonder if you can help me, i just added some custom wavs to you theme for the scrolling and game launching,
i have my Capcom roms folder, and in there i split the cps1,2,3 roms each to a separate folder, my aim is to play a wav when i open a particular folder
in your script i was able to locate the command to play a wav on exiting a folder:-
<sound name="back">
<path>./art/back.wav</path>
</sound>but im not sure what it would be to open a folder? any ideas?
-
@stuart2773
Hi,I don't think there is a sound for entering a folder. Sound options are very limited unfortunately, in the early days of ES it seemed to support sounds for most actions but at some point they were removed for some reason which is a shame.

Hi,
Here is the 4x3 version ready to try. It supports 1440x1080, 1280x1024, 1280x960, and 1024x768.
You'll need to go into the settings.xml and define the resolution of the display you're using.
It only supports NeoGeo, Capcom and the Config menu (same as the 16x9 version). But I will get a generic arcade system added to both versions in the near future.

@ruckage where do i paypal the bounty to?
-
@ruckage tiny favor... can you place in a zipfile the "logo.png" with no "NeoGeo MVS" and other text on it, just the button including the red & white background, and the "arcade-controls.png" without the "Menu" and "Options" text on it? as i need a clean and pure image to customize for my own purposes..
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
