@gavsterr I don't use a bios with GBA and I haven't had any issues other than swapping around the emulators whemever I have a compatibility issue (I have only had one GBA compatibility issue and that was with DK King of Swing. But as soon as I swapped the emulator, it was all good).

Indeed, the only reason to use a bios in my opinion is for that gorgeous GBA intro but is better to not use a BIOS

@gavsterr you'll have the answers you need in the docs.

                    • Controller Configuration
                    • You can change the default emulator for gba using runcommand launch menu.

Also, look at that message on top of every page of this forum:

just in case anyone was curious. the issue wasnt the controller config or the emulator/settings
it was the bluetooth controller. the N30 by 8bitdo for whatever reason would not follow the same button mapping, switched toa PS4 controller and everything worked perfectly

@gavsterr did you enable "save configuration on exit" in RetroArch?

@meleu sorry for the late reply i have, the issue seems to be only with my blue tooth controllers, usb works just fine. on all bluetooth controllers all the buttons are remapped into odd locations or not at all, for instance the "Start" button was the "A" button and the d-pad worked normal, none of the other buttons had an response.

@gavsterr do your bluetooth work on EmulationStation and don't work in games?

                              What models are you using?

@meleu yes the Controller works fine in the station menu but when in-game it no longer works with the configuration i had set up. Its the F30 by 8bitdo.

@gavsterr did you install them following the steps in the docs?

                                  https://retropie.org.uk/docs/8Bitdo-Controller/

The problem you're describing is typically related with the "8bitdo hack". Check the step 4 in the doc.

@meleu the "Hack on" was the issue, but i noticed it didnt well with it off. the problem i found was that the Firmware update didnt go through on the controller, once i was finally able to get it updated and reset it up following the step by step guide you linked i was able to get it working perfectly and connecting every time. Thanks for your help in my small matter.
