hiding bios file.

@lostless Does it work if everything is in the Arcade folder and I am using Runcommand to pick FBA, MAME, AdvanceMAME etc. to launch titles (for NeoGeo I am using FBA)?
-
@caver01 I'm assuming so. Mame can run folders that are not zipped. It's how I used to run MAME games back in the early 2000s because i didn't know what i was doing. Give it a try. You can always replace the neo-geo.zip if need be.
-
I hope we´ll see a simple "hide file" option (just like in Recalbox) in the future.
-
@lostless MAME sure, but FBA?
-
@caver01 seems to work
-
@lostless Thanks. I am away from my Pi to test. Actually, I might explore merging the BIOS files into the ROM zip too. That method appeals to me about as much as unzipped folders.
-
@caver01 you just have to unzip the neogeo bios. If you unzip the games, they won’t be reconized by emulation station.
-
@lostless Your method didn't work for me. The games wouldn't load.
I removed the neogeo.zip, extracted the files (23 of them), placed them back into the neogeo roms directory, and restarted ES.
Once that didn't work, I created a separate folder, placed the bios' in there, then placed that into the neogeo roms folder, and restarted ES. No luck.
Did I do something wrong? Your games do work when started?
-
@wombat try naming the folder “neogeo”. I tried it 2 pi’s using retroarch final burn alpha
-
@lostless Ah ok, I'm not using it for a MAME cabinet, my bad. I'm on RetroArch 1.6.7. I'm not sure if that matters or what the difference is since I've never looked into Final Burn. I'll try and research some!

Hey all, Ive found the easiest solution to this issue. Just unzip the neo-geo.zip file and put the now neo-geo folder into your Neo Geo games folder. since none of the files in the bios are .zip, the whole folder is hidden. The bios doesn't have to be zipped up.
I can confirm this works, thanks for the tip!
-
@capeman @lostless This did not work for me. Can you share the paths of your folders and files and the exact emulators you are using?
I have
mslug.zip
in/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/arcade
alongside theneogeo.zip
and the game launches fine with lr-fbalpha. If I unzipneogeo.zip
I get a folder full of bios files in/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/arcade/neogeo
and if I rename or deleteneogeo.zip
to hide it, the game does not launch. I tried moving the bios folder to/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/neogeo/neogeo
and it still does not work.Any chance you still have your .zip bios file present and that is why it works?
-
The raw bios files need to be in a folder called neogeo is the neogeo roms folder. I’ve done no diffent than that. The original zip is deleated
-
@lostless that sounds the same as my setup. What emulator?
-
@caver01 lr-finalburn alpha
-
@caver01 if you’re using the Arcade folder. Put the neogeo bios folder in the Arcade folder. fba looks for the files in whatever folder the game rom is in

ls -l /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/arcade/neogeo
-
@caver01 I use lf-finalburnalpha, i use the neo geo system separate so all my roms are in:
/home/pi/retropie/roms/neogeo
I took the neogeo.zip file and unzipped it to a folder called neogeo on my mac, then i uploaded the whole folder to the directory above via ssh.
/home/pi/retropie/roms/neogeo/neogeo
<-- this folder contained all the bios -
@caver01 Also, double check your emulator, you might have the arcade folder defaulting to MAME, i havent tested this method with mame and it might not work. I'm definitely using FBA and the zip folder is long gone.
-
@caver01 Well didn't know that there is no solution for this old topic. As linux is case sensitive we can have multiple instances of the "same" file ;)
Be carefull - Case sensitive
Rename
neogeo.zip
toneogeo.ZiP
That's all ;) I think extracting is a whole mess I would avoid for the sake of 1 entry
And changing the entries ines_systems.cfg
is also bad :)This "trick" works only for arcade and fba but not for NEOGEO ;) But I think that's a bug in ES
