I didn't buy anything that day. But I must admit the Famicom with disc system attached was a big temptation but the price was just too high for such old stuff.

      @lilbud
PCEnignes are expensive here. As ruckage mentioned I am keeping my eyes open but even broken ones in decent condition go for $30 and that is without controllers, just the console itself.
Then there is the core grafx version, dark grey color, that one is even more expensive.

@ruckage There is a guy on Ebay selling PC Engine shells for $12 + $9 shipping. But they come from Hong Kong. Wouldn't get to me until next year, not sure about how long it would take to get to Europe.

That's not bad, good find. Only downside I can see is that the power button doesn't seem to be included.

Anyone ever heard of something called RETRO FREAK?
It's a 11 in 1 console that plays the following console games.

            Famicom
            Super Famicom
            Super Nintendo Entertainment System (NTSC/PAL)
            Game Boy
            Game Boy Color
            Game Boy Advance
            MegaDrive (NTSC/PAL)
            GENESIS
            PCEngine
            TurboGrafx-16
            PCEngine Super Grafx

It has HDMI exit and you can use USB controllers.
They sell an optional adapter which allows you to play additional systems like SEGA SG-1000, MARKIII and GameGear.

            More info here.

@flyingtomahawk looks like an emulator box to me. I wonder if they’re ripping off code like Hyperkin, using their own emulators (doubtful) or doing something FPGA-based.

It does look like an emulator box but you have to use the original cartridge games. Kinda like I read and play everthing box. No idea how the menu looks though, if they are using a menu at all.

@flyingtomahawk you can use a SD with roms. but 200 bucks mmm , for me rpi is the best choice.

Yeah, my thought exactly. With all the Raspberry Pi hype at the moment it would be way cheaper.
Guess if you have 14563765 cartridges laying around at home it would kinda make sense, or maybe not.
There is simply no cheap alternative to RPi at the moment. That is what I told my co-workers when we went to that store yesterday. All nice and good but even the cheapest Famicom is expensiver then a RPi setup.

Emulation is great, but there’s just something about playing these games on the original hardware. It’s hard to explain.

@obsidianspider thats why i put pi’s in real consoles and use all original controllers. I can enjoy the old school feel with new technology.

is just a mock up, I was checking the retro freak console menu, they do a great job to create the frontend, but with emulationstation's theme options we can create something similar as you see, for example a retrofreakpie theme hehe 0_1510247842467_freakpie theme.jpg

Yesterday I successfully replaced the capacitors in a Game Gear. I originally bought it to put a Pi inside, but later decided to try to repair it. I'm glad I did. Now that it's working I'm looking at modding it to have a LED backlight, and also to switch it over to use a LiPo battery instead of the rechargeable six AAs it uses now.

Did another trip to the store that sells all the retro stuff for crazy prices and I saw this.

                                      alt text

16200Yen!!!?? ($144 USD or 107 GBP) insane considering that I have never seen any PAL games over here. Not even one. And on top of that it would not run over here since the TV can only process NTSC.

How much are they going for these days anyway?

That's expensive. The price varies quite a bit but you can get a boxed NES with some games for under £100. An un-boxed unit with controller can be bought for £40 - £60 depending on condition.

I'm willing to bet they would be even cheaper in the USA as they were much more common and they would also be NTSC which should mean they would work on a Japanese TV.

I'm guessing they want that much because it's rare. I dunno, that seems really high, or it's for people who can't bother to look on eBay.

I ordered some EverDrives during Krikzz's Black Friday sale. Two haven't shipped yet due to them being on back order, but the first three are here and they're fantastic.

A bonus that I discovered is that .srm files from lr-snes9xseem to work on the SD2SNES, so saved games from my RetroPie build(s) can be transferred to play on real hardware, at least from the games I tried it with.
