A quick question for you. I saw in astrob.zip.cfg you had the vertical shader setup but commented out. Is that tough to do? I mean adding it to the configs.
I have all the overlays in use for games I play (which is most of them). Basically what I do is if you create an overlay for a game in my library I add it. Then I go to Dank's vertical shaders and check to see if it's vertical. If it's vertical I add the lines into the game.zip.cfg (I have the regular shader set for global). Lastly I move Dank's vertical shader config to a temp directory so the overlay works properly and just in case I am playing on a TV that's not 1080 I can move it back and disable the overlay. I wish they were dynamic! ;)

Some people prefer shaders, others don't use them. It would be a nice selectable option in @meleu's install script.
@meleu: would that be difficult ?

Also do Burning Force and Darkstalkers work with the optional overlays that requires video_scale_integer? I like the "boxed" in overlays that surround the screen
      they look very sharp.

I'm not sure I understand your question; for those 2 games the overlay is done with "integer scale" ON: means you have artwork surrounding the game area. Some artwork looks really best with this configuration but you limit the game area size.
Would you like more overlays like these 2 ?
Generally I prefer the "sidebars only" overlays as you get maximum game area.

I definitely like using shaders but also using the correct orientation like crt-pi.glslp (horizontal) or crt-pi-vertical.glslp (vertical). I think you pulled some database information for Dank to build the shaders. I set my global to crt-pi.glslp and override the vertical games in the zip.cfg along with the overlay settings.

In your Astro Blaster overlay (astrob.zip.cfg) you already have the vertical shader option set. It's just commented out.

I find it a nice option. I was just manually digging through the files and saw you had a few that were surround overlays so I enabled them and I thought they look nice.

I know you loose some space but they sure look sharp to me. It's not a must as the side bars are really nice too. I just wanted to comment on how sharp they look! :)

How about Wizard of Wor? Here's some Wizard of Wor artwork. Just googling Wizard of Wor arcade shows some cabs and other variations. The one with the hand over plexiglass I just don't remember that version or I was just to focused on the gameplay back in the day. Amazing what you can block out.

Ok I will post any issues I come across in the repo which will be handy.

Moon War looks sharp! I love that "robotic" voice in game.

I don't remember that game. It must have been one of the first co-op 2 player games.
Will have a look at making the overlay (integer scale for you).

That's looks sharp! Yeah it was released 1980 I think and had maybe a niche following but it was popular enough that it has been included in a few Midway arcade packs released for consoles. I have both of them. Yeah it's 2 player co-op or competitive but we always tried to work together. We definitely dropped our share of quarters in it waiting for the Wizard of Wor to show up (randomly) and it was more luck than skill when you killed him due to moving so fast to the nearest exit!

Hey @UDb23 just a quick follow to say thanks again for taking the time to make this overlay. It works great and really looks sharp! I think there was at least one other guy that had WoW in his top 10 list so hopefully he finds it to enjoy too!

@meleu: would that be difficult ?

hey bro, sorry for the late reply.

I'm not sure if it would be difficult. If it's just a matter of commenting/uncommenting a line it would quite easy, but I'm not sure how shaders work (never liked to use it myself).

I've added this item as a feature request in rpie-art's issue tracker: https://github.com/meleu/rpie-art/issues/5

If you guys can provide more info/links or any shader related info that can inspire me, please post comments on that thread and I'll take a look at some point. ;)

I'm a little busy currently, but you, and any other guy here, are free to make feature requests for rpie-art script here: https://github.com/meleu/rpie-art/issues

                          Cheers!

@meleu I too don't like shaders. Apparently many do actually appreciate and use them.

To play it as it should be (like the real thing) you need an arcade stick, possibly a 4 ways.

I had mentioned the idea earlier to @UDb23 but on second thought maybe it doesn't make as much sense. There's many shaders for MAME and they are a matter of preference so to pigeon hole one shader probably wouldn't work. I do prefer DaveJ's "crt-pi" shader though. If you try one it's a good one.

Here's the RetroPie link on shaders:
                                      https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Shaders-and-Smoothing

                                      To set a shader:

                                      • RetroPie Setup

                                      • 1 Configure Libretro options
                                      • 12 mame-libretro/retroarch.cfg (or whatever Libretro core you're using)
                                      • 2 video_shader_enable (true)
                                      • 3 video_shader (/opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/shader/crt-pi.glsl) (my preferred shader)

On a side note do you think there's any value to making an option to adjust input_overlay_opacity globally. I've set every overlay to .5 so it doesn't overpower/look brighter then the screen play area or do most leave it at defaults?

I think that's an interesting suggestion; I did get a couple of requests on how to set different level of opacity. Don't know if this a customization that's requested by many.

Ok, right now I do them manually and make a backup on a USB so I don' t need to do it again. Maybe if enough interest is shown a feature request down the road for those that don't like command line file tweaking.
