      Has anyone ever tried this on the pi? If you have does it work better or worse than the mame2003 core? Did they merge the code into the mame2003 core?

      I'm not sure if I see much of a difference...Just thought I'd ask for more input.

        @akafox said in Mame 2003 midway libreto core:

        i suspect this is twinaphex's attempt at solving the mame2003 mk2/3 sound bug, that has since been fixed by someone else. looking at the commits it looks like it was in that area - i think backporting a later driver? i guess now the issue is solved it's not needed.

          Ressurecting this.

          So after looking at the core, it has some additional options that aren't in the main mame2003 core such as adjusting frameskip.

          I created a script in my repository for it for anyone that wants to give it a shot: https://github.com/zerojay/RetroPie-Extra/blob/master/scriptmodules/libretrocores/lr-mame2003_midway.sh

              @zerojay Thanks for this.

              On my Pi 2, I have tested a few Midway games from the MAME 0.78 romset that weren't working in lr-mame2003. I'm not sure what games are compatible with this core so it may be case that some of the games I tested won't work.

              Rampage World Tour works fine but is too quiet. I tried to adjust the volume in the RGUI but it only went up to +12db which was still too quiet. I created a config file rmpgwt.zip.cfg file in the rom directory and added the line audio_volume = 25.0 which seems to have done the trick.

              There is an audio glitch in Mortal Kombat where the announcer only says "Finish Him!".

              There's similar glitch in NBA Jam Tournament Edition where the announcer repeats the same thing again and again. There is also, like in NBA Jam, background noise which distracts from the gameplay.

              None of the Bally Midway games - Satan's Hollow, Tapper, Timber and Tron - launched. There was a segmentation fault with all of them. As I said earlier, it may be that these games don't work with this core. It's not a big deal as they work in mame4all-pi.

                Most of the midway games have low volume by default and you have to enter the service menu to turn them up.

                  @zerojay I should've known this - I did it previously for MK. For future reference, it's F2 on a keyboard to bring up the service menu.

                  Any thoughts on the other games?

                    Look at the source and see if they are included, file a bug about it upstream.

                      Yup, that "Finish him" bug in mk.zip is a pain. It replaces all phrases with "Finish him"and makes the game feel like a bad hack.

                      I don't recall that being present in previous versions of the core.
