          Sonic 2 XL - Genesis
Wow... Every ring in the entire game is replace with onion rings, and the more you collect, the fatter sonic gets. You can work off the fat by running, but if you get too fat, you can't move and you die. It's adds a whole new dynamic to the game, and the animations of sonic rolling when he's morbidly obese is hysterical! A must play for sure!

            Goldfinger 64 1.0

Color me intrigued. Anyone tried it out yet? I'll be testing it for mupen on the RPi3 if someone doesn't beat me to it. May try it on Winx64 PJ64 too if that fails.

Edit: Opens with mupen64plus-GLide64, but fails to load levels.

Would you recommend this for a first timer? I keep putting Earthbound off, but maybe this is the inspiration I need ha.

@hooperre Yes, it modernizes the controls a lot so the game is a little easier. Though don't take my word for it, I haven't played Earthbound in about a year or so.

                      Hey! Wazzup fellows!

I'm digging up this thread to talk a bout the homebrew Zooming Secretary, for NES.

                      Here's a gameplay:

You can get the ROM legally with no issues on the developer's page: https://shiru.untergrund.net/software.shtml

A cool thing about this game is that I've created RetroAchievements for it! Check it out:

Nice! If we're on the subject of Homebrews for the next few minutes, i've been trying to get through Streemerz lately with little progress haha. Game is really hard!

Here's a hack of the first NES Final Fantasy called Super Mario Fantasy Adventure. Replaces graphics, music, enemies, items, text to fit a Mario theme. Very impressive:

PS. I made a custom NES cover for this game if anyone downloads this and is interested.

Castlevania: The Holy Relics was released recently and is excellent.

OOOHH YEAH! We got a doozie here! Just released! The Mario Land 2 Gameboy Color DX hack! Full color added to SMW2 and the ability to play as Luigi with altered physics! This is an absolutely ambitious hack and one I've been following development of for a long time! Enjoy!

                                  @capeman

This was a good month for ROM hacks. Two translation hacks that are worth mentioning are 'Super Famicom Wars' and 'Battle Golfer Yui'. Released on Christmas Eve, 'Super Famicom Wars' marks the final entry of the Japanese-only "Nintendo Wars" series to be fully fan-translated into English. The series was first officially introduced outside of Japan as 'Advance Wars' for the GameBoy Advance, which has gone on to have several successful sequels of it's own.

'Battle Golfer Yui' is one that was just released two days ago and I'm dying to play it. Apparently it's an "Adventure/RPG/Golf game hybrid about an evil organization making cyborg "battle golfers" in order to take over the world." That description alone is worth the price of admission and I'm looking forward to putting some time into it this evening. The Japanese have always had a flare for unique and interesting RPG titles. Pretty much everyone knows how amazing 'Earthbound' is and the 'River King' series is another great example, being an RPG/Fishing game hybrid. Good stuff all around and some great games for the new year.

@capeman You're going to lose it when you hear about Golf Story on the Switch. It's like Earthbound met golf.

I played Zelda Festive Randomizer for a few hours today and thought it was absolutely delightful.

The main world is covered in snow and ice, all of the important upgrades and items are completely random and appear as a Christmas presents. So cute. ♥

It also has Christmas music along with the Peanuts theme song mixed in as well.

I made 50 different seeds of this game because I imagine myself always coming back to play it again.

This link is all that you'll need:
                                        http://vt.alttp.run

Just click on Play Festive Randomizer on the top of the screen.

Next to the green Generate Rom download button, there's a pull down option on how many seeds you would like.

Each seed also comes with a text file for hints in case you're completely stuck in the game.

Has anyone gotten any of the WWF No Mercy Hacks to work on the Pi? I tried them super quick before work without success. I tried 2k17 and Legends. They may require PJ64, which would be a bummer.

                                            THIS. THIS. THIS. THIS.
                                            OMG, THIS.
This is the greatest hack ever. It takes a great game and makes it infinitely better. I cannot believe how much more fun this classic is with this simple hack.

                                            CASTLEVANIA: IMPROVED CONTROLS
                                            Complete list of changes:

                                            • Enables the player to control their x-velocity in mid-air while jumping (including while jump-attacking).
                                            • When releasing the jump button, one immediately starts falling again; this allows the player to make smaller hops if desired.
                                            • After being knocked back, the player regains control after a split second and can angle their fall.
When walking off an edge, the player retains control instead of dropping straight down.
                                            • The player can jump off of stairs at any point in the climb (however, it is still impossible to land on stairs, so be careful jumping from long flights of stairs over pits)

                                            THIS.
