I'm running Retropie 4.3 on a raspberry pi 3. This hack only works with a certain version of the rom and I know I am using the correct version. I patched the rom with the hack using Lunar IPS. The file extension of the rom is .gb, but the hacker says it is now a game boy color game. I tried running it through the lr-gambatte as .gb and I got a white screen whenever I start it. I changed the file extension to .gbc, tried the same emulator, and I had the same issue. The hacker recommends using this emulator and I know others have it running on their pis. Can anyone who has this game running please post a guide on how to get this hack working? We should be able to get a detailed guide on here with everything anyone will need except the rom location.

No issue here. Did you try testing int on a PC emulator to see if you get the same issue? Sounds like the rom is a bad dump. Even if it's named the same, it may be from a different group and could have a different header or checksum. Try a few different dumps with the IPS to be sure.

@Capeman I get the same issue when running it on a PC emulator. The download says that the rom file is a verified good dump, but I will try finding another. Did you run it through Game Boy or Game Boy Color? Did you change the extension to .gbc?

I patched the v1.2 rom by accident at first and it resulted in a white screen as well. After patching v1.0, everything's good as gold on my various systems, including the GBC system entry of Emulation Station launching lr-gambatte. My file extension is .gb, but I really don't think it matters here.

Edit: I just checked the es_systems.cfg file and if you plan on adding it to the GameBoy Color system of Emulation Station unzipped, the extension should indeed be .gbc.

Yup, extension doesnt matter, just so long as you set Gambatte to open both .gb and .gbc (in vanilla retropie, they are different "systems" but the same emulator runs both).

White screen on both pi and PC is 100% bad dump.

Did you rename the patch the same name as your rom and check the crc32 of the Super Mario Land 2 ROM you downloaded because I had the same problem at first.

@mediamogul I have the 1.0 version, or at least that's what the rom is titled. I haven't been able to find another 1.0 besides this one.

@SammyBoy and @Capeman's mention of checksums, or crc32 is going to be key here. The v1.0 ROM used is listed here as being d5ec24e4.

I got it working. The rom file I had was bad, even though it said 1.0 and site said it was a verified good dump. Thanks everyone for the help.
