@sjlurker2018 Can you enable a SSH link?

          Read this: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/SSH
Furthermore learn how to use a simple command set of these OSes
          https://diyhacking.com/linux-commands-for-beginners/

Then you will understand if people give hints to you ;)

          Welcome to RetroPie

If I'm wrong then excuse me ;)

          EDIT:
I've written a small script to change retroarch.cfg on the fly
          Maybe this can help....
          Dirty Little RetroArch.cfg writer
You need to add the command call to /opt/retropie/config/all/runcommand-onstart.sh

@sjlurker2018 No you type commands into the terminal or command line interface (CLI)

              You can enter a terminal

              1. Exit EmulationStation via Main Menu > Quit > Quit EmulationStation
1.1 You see now the command prompt
                1.2 Enter commands via keyboard
              2. via SSH and a second PC
2.1 you enter also a terminal but this is remote
2.2 you need a second PC/Tablet.... for this

Follow the instructions I've posted you. Then we can help you further.
