Backup Retropie SD Card by Button
-
Hello,
I have a question that I cannot find on google.
Till today there is no simple way to backup the complete SD card to USB by a simple Button.
Is there a Retropie application I don't know?
I want to make a full backup of the SD Card to another USB Flashdrive by pressing a button.

With one button? No that doesn't exist yet. On Linux one can make a "disk dump" (= exact copy) of a disk (i.e. SD card) w/ the command dd in Linux. Some people call that command disk destroyer though, because it overwrites the contents of a disk if you make a mistake in the disk ID. I'll not post the dd command that you can use because I strongly discourage using it. And chances are that you are using Windows (not Linux) ;-)
P.S. The Pi runs on Linux too. But to use the command dd you have to unmount the disk you're copying. That means that you cannot run a Pi and backup the SD it's running of at the same time.

@fantomas Following what @Meneer-Jansen said, I would recommend that you just look for a SD clone tool for your OS and use that. Cloning a running system (what your copy button would do) is almost never a good idea because the system may change the disk contents in the middle of the cloning process. (I'm leaving out pro-level solutions like file system snapshots on purpose here.)
