I use a wired DS3 on my raspberry pi 3 and I am noticing a very very slight input lag. I have tried various instructions modifying the config files that are on the github page. Its really an ever so slight input lag and its more noticeable on games like Super Mario Bros. Was wondering if this is something limited to DS3 or is there better performance from say a DS4? Also wondering if there was a proper way to test input lag so I could actually see what the ping is between the controller and the pi?

What are you using for a display, and have you tested any other input devices (i.e. keyboard)?

I use a DS3 wirelessly and do not get any noticeable input lag at all.

I have used a couple of TV's at this point all through HDMI. I have not attempted keyboard yet. I can try that next. Out of curiosity if Keyboard proves to be better what are my next steps?

Yeah sorry - that's my only suggestion. To see if the display itself is adding too much lag. If the keyboard input doesn't have the same lag, then you've narrowed the issue down to the controller. You can also see if your TV has a GAME setting or something similar. This eliminates almost all processing and reduces response time.

But why use the DS3 in a wired mode anyway, since the RPi3 has built-in Bluetooth? Just install the drivers through the setup menu.

You should list your entire setup... what version of RetroPie are you using, what is the amp rating on your power source, etc.

also, upgrade the lr-fceumm nes emulator by SOURCE via https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/updating-retropie#updatinginstalling-individual-packages

(there's been a recent input lag fix.. it's probably available in the binary also but i loose track!)

lr-snes9x-next (SNES emulator) has also received a similar fix that can be obtained doing the same.
