I was thinking, it being "retro" and all, perhaps the big donation could go toward setting up a FAX-back system. You know, dial the number, input the index via DTMF, and of course, key in your callback number, and the system can send you faxes of the Wiki pages you request.
Maybe we could even run the FAX-back system on a Raspberry Pi? RetroFax.

@hurkgt18 you could have a faulty Pi. Try downloading a raspian image and testing with that to confirm.

@hurkgt18 or a faulty SD card. It becomes a hardware swapping game until you isolate the problem.

Are you using SD card imaging software like Etcher.io to do this or just copying what you extracted onto the FAT32 formatted card? The card needs to be imaged with the download.

i'd also like to point out that i ordered the Pi off of ebay. And it was shipped to me in a plain white envelop with no padding and the envelope was scuffed and have obviously been heavily handled. Any chance something could have broken in transit. I have a new Pi on the way and this one I ordered from Adafruit.

@hurkgt18 like I said, try a raspian image and see if it boots. Could be a faulty Pi.

@markyh444 im downloading a raspian stretch lite. i unzip that and flash that to my SD just like I did with the retropie, correct?

@caver01 haha thats awesome! Or maybe it could be like one of those tip lines that Nintendo had back in the day where you pay by the minute for game walkthroughs and advice.

@drakaen391 the usb hub isnt what I am using to power the pi. Its just allows me to plug more than one controller into the pi when I play video game. i know i mistyped when I called it a amazon powerhub. Its a USB hub for multiple usb inputs.

No flicker = no power. The usb hub is the issue here. What is it and how are you using it?

@rbaker the usb hub is an Amazon Basics 4 port usb hub. It is plugged into the USb port of the Raspberry Pi and it allows more than one controller to be plugged in when playing games on the emulator.

@hurkgt18 So this is your project? or what you hope to make? Your issue is that the zero has no power. If you are powering it from that amazon usb hub, there is your issue. The reviews of that device are not favourable and a lot of hubs just don't work with the pi. A quick search on here will show you. Also, you have just revealed what you might like to make but what is your current test setup exactly? more information is needed. Also, both micro usb ports can be used to provide "power" (ie. 5V) but only the "USB" labelled port has (USB) data connections.

@rbaker This is just a picture of someone elses project and how the wires plug into the Pi. If you look at the bottom of the picture, the first plug on the left is what the HDMI cord from the TV plugs in to. The next one over is what the power supply plugs in to. Then the three USB slots there are for controllers and thumb drives to add roms after Retropie is installed. This is how I have my cords plugged in to the pi. Obviously when I try to power it on I plug in the power supply to the correct cord.

@hurkgt18 You need to build the system step by step and the first step is to power the pi properly and get it working first. The recommended current capacity for a zero is 1.2A so your max of 500mA per usb on this hub is not a great way to power your pi and test it properly.
