Hi, I've just received a starter pack for the rasberry pi3b.

I've downloaded the required image file from the website, and also installed win32diskimager. However, whenever I try to install the image on to the sd card that came with the pack, it says there isn't enough space :(
    Am I doing something wrong?

    Hope you can help!!

    Many thanks in advance!!

@kidcy try formatting the card using SDFormatter first or try using etcher.io to write the image to the card.

      https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/
      https://etcher.io/

@jonnykesh thanks for the reply. The card was sent with 2 separate partitions. Is that normal, and if so, which partition should I format?
          Thanks again

@rbaker hey, thanks for the reply.

I have a 16bg as card that was included in the pack. It is partitioned into 2. One of the partitions has data on which looks like needed data for the raspberry pi3b, the other, blank, of which I was trying to save the downloaded raspberry p3 img to.

            Thanks again

@kidcy Format the whole card to restore it to its original full size. You will be overwriting it anyway with the RetroPie image. You just need to make sure it is seen as the full original size.
I think the option in SD formatter is "Restore original size" or something equally obvious.

                @jonnykesh

Nice one Jonny 😉 I'll try this out when I get home. Here's hoping

Does it need to be partitioned?

I've formatted sd card, and installed the image from rasberry pi3 from the retrope website. All I get is a multi coloured screen and nothing else. Is this what is supposed to happen?

@kidcy It's obviously not meant to happen. Did you buy a Pi3B+ by any chance?
If it is the "plus" you need the image from this forum and not from the download page.

I did.. :( I thought it was the same as the rasberry p3, just better, and compatible with everything that was before.. :s
Anyway.. Onwards and upwards! Seriously, thanks so much for your help.. Hopefully I'll get some games working on it one day soon!

When you say you installed the image, what software did you use? Your description sounds like you were trying to save the information file to the SD card instead of write it using an application. I use etcher as you don't have to extract the file first.

Hi Simonster, I have tried using both Etcher and Win32diskimager. The SD card seems to have the files written to it, I'm worried that I may have formatted the G drive and removed files that were necessary for the workings of the pi3b+ . is that possible?

Thank you Jonnykesh. I've actually got retropie (pi3b+ beta) running! Nice to finally see something on screen!

Now to try and get some games :)
