What would it take to play Quake 2?
-
Quake works. Quake 3 Arena works. I know Quake 2 should work. So what would it take to make it work? Would we have to build it from source for the PI? Or just make a launcher for an existing build and add it to the setup script? I'm surprised no one's done it by now.

@benmclean There is an ongoing discussion at the Raspberry Pi forums that may be of interest: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=180667

Thanks for the heads up!

It looks like they've got it running and the only thing left now is to get someone to distribute the binaries and add a module for the RetroPie setup script to download them.

I saw on the blog that the new version of RetroPie has yquake2! But there are no instructions for setting it up to play. :( Those are needed

@benmclean It behaves similarly to the quake ports installation.
You can install it from the RetroPie packages from the Ports section. By default it will download the shareware version of q2 and install it in theports/quake2
sub - folder from the ROMs folder. Similar to quake1, if you wish to play the full game, you copy the *.pak files from the full game installation toports/quake2/baseq2
