      @rk1gaming You probably are installing from source the packages and what you see are compilation warnings, which are normal and don't indicate any problems with the system. The 'locking' could be that the system is waiting for the compilation to finish, which for a system like a Raspberry Pi can take some time (even hours) - if you can access the system through SSH over the network, then the system is not locked.
      I'd say that you're seeing is normal for installing packages from source, there's no real bug to fix.

        sometimes when I play a game, the system locks up. I have an SD Card with OSMC on it, and it runs flawlessly. OSMC also has the same Kernal version, v4.14. So I have no clue what the problem is.

            The only way that I can explain this, is this.I plug the power into the Pi, it goes through the boot process and up comes emulation station. I can let it sit there for a while and then choose a system and load a ROM. The rom loads and I can play for a while and then the screen freezes and I cannot do anything, I have to unplug the power and plug it back in again.

            The system is a follows:

            Raspberry Pi 3 model B+
            A 5v 2.5A power adapter
            A PDP Afterglow Prismatic wired XBOX ONE controller
            Network (WIRED) ethernet
            the system is NOT overclocked

              Which Emulator/ROM ? Do you still have access through SSH to the system ? How did you install the system ?

                The emulator is for Neo-Geo pocket color and the rom was neo cherry master. Not sure what SSH is. I installed the system by formatting the SD card, flashing it with a clean download of the 4.4 image, putting it into the Pi and plugging in the power and letting it do it's thing. I hope this is what you mean.

                  @rk1gaming SSH is another method of remotely accesing your PI, over the network - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/SSH/. If your keyboard/screen are frozen, you can still access your system this way and check what's wrong or reboot it.
                  Does this happen with every game or just a set of ROMs - like the Neo Cherry Master ?

                    it happens with a vast majority of the games. in fact, it has locked up even when installing a package...like for a system emulator.

                      @rk1gaming Do you get a lightning bolt at the top of the screen when the freezing happens ?

                          @rk1gaming Honestly, looks more like a faulty power supply or card, and not software related. Can you post your config.txt file, from the SD card ?

                            Hmmmm, the power supply came with a kit I bought, but the lightning bolt happened when I used the old power supply. And the sd card is kind of old.

                            config.txt

                            For more options and information see

                            http://rpf.io/configtxt

                            Some settings may impact device functionality. See link above for details

                            uncomment if you get no picture on HDMI for a default "safe" mode

                            #hdmi_safe=1

                            uncomment this if your display has a black border of unused pixels visible

                            and your display can output without overscan

                            disable_overscan=1

                            uncomment the following to adjust overscan. Use positive numbers if console

                            goes off screen, and negative if there is too much border

                            #overscan_left=16
                            #overscan_right=16
                            #overscan_top=16
                            #overscan_bottom=16

                            uncomment to force a console size. By default it will be display's size minus

                            overscan.

                            #framebuffer_width=1280
                            #framebuffer_height=720

                            uncomment if hdmi display is not detected and composite is being output

                            #hdmi_force_hotplug=1

                            uncomment to force a specific HDMI mode (this will force VGA)

                            #hdmi_group=1
                            #hdmi_mode=1

                            uncomment to force a HDMI mode rather than DVI. This can make audio work in

                            DMT (computer monitor) modes

                            #hdmi_drive=2

                            uncomment to increase signal to HDMI, if you have interference, blanking, or

                            no display

                            #config_hdmi_boost=4

                            uncomment for composite PAL

                            #sdtv_mode=2

                            #uncomment to overclock the arm. 700 MHz is the default.
                            #arm_freq=800

                            Uncomment some or all of these to enable the optional hardware interfaces

                            #dtparam=i2c_arm=on
                            #dtparam=i2s=on
                            #dtparam=spi=on

                            Uncomment this to enable the lirc-rpi module

                            #dtoverlay=lirc-rpi

                            Additional overlays and parameters are documented /boot/overlays/README

                            Enable audio (loads snd_bcm2835)

                            dtparam=audio=on
                            gpu_mem_256=128

                            gpu_mem_1024=256

                              Wrap the contents of the file in code tags (````) so it's readable. Doesn't seem you have anything different than the stock image, so I'd try a different SD card just to make sure it's not that.

                                  @rk1gaming put four back tics (````) without the parenthesis before and after blocks of code so that it looks like this:

                                          I just got a brand new SD card and copied the image to it. Pu the card into the Pi, the initial install went fine and so did updating the system. I went to install the first package "DGEN" and it locked up. Why?

                                            You should try determining if your problem is HW related - run a CPU stress program (like https://core-electronics.com.au/tutorials/stress-testing-your-raspberry-pi.html) and see if it still locks up. Locking is usually indicative of inadequate power supply or improper ventilation.
