Regarding v4.4
-
I will try that, thank you.
-
While looking the other day of the over the Raspbian updates, I've noticed they added a recent change in the firmware, specifically for the 3b+ model. The change is firmware:
platform: Pi3 B+ reduce sdram freq to 450 while investigations are ongoing
referencing a long thread in their forums (https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=208821) where lockups are reported for the new model. Some of the topic posters ran a stress test using
memtester
and got pretty reproducible lockups.If you manage to get a stress test that would lock up the system, you might try either to update to the latest firmware (via
rpi-update
) or add to yourconfig.txt
filesdram_freq=450
and see if you get a more stable system.
-
@mitu isn't 450mhz the stock speed? What are they reducing from?
-
where do I add the line in config.txt?
-
@quicksilver For the 3B+,
sdram_freq
seems a bit different (500). If you have one, you can check withvcgencmd get_config int
from a command line. -
@rk1gaming Just add it at the end of the file, on a separate line. But, have you been able to run any of the stress tests I've been mentioning ?
-
No, but I was able to run a rom for 3 and a half hours just now.
-
by the way, I did have my Pi 3 B+ in a case and took it out. I have a ceiling fan kinda blow directly on the Pi and it still locked up after 3 hours. IDK!
-
@rk1gaming slightly off topic but why are you installing dgen?
-
I installed it because it is a good SEGA Genesis emulator for Windows, at least it was.
-
I updated the raspberryPi's firmware and that seemed to do the trick. It doesn't lock up anymore. Thanks for all the help.
-
@rk1gaming dgen is pretty outdated and doesn't have the benefit of retroarch controls. In most cases the default emulators that have been selected by the retropie team work best. For Genesis use lr-genesisplusgx. Can also use lr-picodrive as an alternative if needed.
-
thanks.
-
@rk1gaming Glad you got it sorted out. Just for curiosity, can you run
vcgencmd get_config int
from the terminal and post the output ? -

@mitu said in Regarding v4.4:
Wrap the contents of the file in code tags (
````
) so it's readable.@quicksilver said in Regarding v4.4:
@rk1gaming put four back tics (````) without the parenthesis before and after blocks of code
Actually, three tics suffice. π
