Watch Australian TV on Retropie Without an Antenna
-
Hey everyone,
I recently got local free-to-air TV working on my Retropie rig.
I've written up some instructions on how to hook it up, in case anyone else wants to know how to set it up:
https://blog.dxmtechsupport.com.au/streaming-australian-tv-channels-to-a-raspberry-pi/
If you've already got Kodi installed, it takes about a minute to get this going. If you don't have it installed yet, I go through how to do that in the Retropie setup menu as well :)
I'm running Retropie 4.4 with Kodi 17.6 on a model 3B+ but this should work on anything with a reasonably up to date version of Kodi.
You might need a VPN to watch these channels outside Australia.

@handsomegenius I know this isn't really related to RetroPie, but I just wanted to thank you for this. I have an old kodi box in the kitchen, but no antenna nearby. This is really helpful.
Also: "Which I guess is fine if you can be arsed". Hah, you're not half Aussie at all are ya?

@handsomegenius This is great. Thank you so much for sharing. I have a tv upstairs which I mainly use for gaming and my only antenna port is downstairs. While I don't really watch a lot of free to air tv nowadays it would be nice to have the option so I will definitely be trying this

@handsomegenius I had a good chuckle at your instructions - thanks! They definitely work too as I'm now watching Perth breakfast telly (and losing millions of brain cells by the second). God save us from Australian free to air. It is truly horrid.
