Any LED HAT type things as possible decorations for my case while gaming?
-
Hey, y'all.
So I want to spiff up my RPi a little, like folks do with their big gaming computers sort of. I'm checking out these LED HAT deals, but I'm not totally sure how they work. Is there anything like a Unicorn HAT sort of thing that I can set up that'll be a cool display in my case while I'm playing games on Retropie?
Maybe just running through the cool swirl patterns, or showing temp or processing power or something?
What'd be really cool is one of those little screens showing what's going on with code and background stuff while the Retropie GUI is giving me the gaming funness. I'm pretty sure they can't do that though.
Anyway, I appreciate any help.
Thanks!

@corbidorbi There's lots of different things out there. Check this out:
https://www.adafruit.com/product/3813At closer to the end of the year they advertise led circuit board Christmas trees (not sure if that's one of the led ones you've seen) that have different light settings and it's small enough to sit right on your Pi case. I have never played with them to have them run inline with Retropie but I'm sure it wouldn't be tough. Also, I doubt it takes away from system resources too much, but emulators such as N64 that need every ounce of umph that the Pi can throw at it may possibly suffer.
If you get one of the tiny displays you could have it display whatever you wanted. I am tempted to get one just to have an uptime clock for fun, or even a Knight Rider grille light.

I got the 3D led Christmas tree and I've been meaning to get a blinkt panel, could also look at a sense hat.
Most are novelty stuff but fun to play with with a bit of scripting

OK, so I've been googling up a storm looking at the options. I think I'm either going to go with a piglow, and use some code folks have already put together. Seems like the three arms can show something like Temp, CPU Load, something else (I can't remember).
But what really looks like it'd be cool is the Displayotron. Seems I could set it up to show the system and ROM running on Retropie. And I figure the backlights could be setup to have a color that'd match the system (like Red for Nintendo or something). And then use the bargraph to show CPU load. But what I'd love to do is use the joystic on the Displayotron as a safe shutdown button. Could I do that? Does it sound at all reasonable?
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
