[Solved] Sega saturn CD+G CHANNEL & Music doesn't work
-
@boltio3 Not sure. Can you please upload the pictures directly to the forum and not to a TP site.
-
@jonnykesh It's gyazo.com, but ok, i'll do that.
-
@boltio3 Here's an article about the RAM cart, https://segaretro.org/Extended_RAM_Cartridge
-
This post is deleted! -
@boltio3 I know what it is and most people don't like being directed to TP sites in order to provide assistance. All the relevant info should be posted directly.
It also means if someone searches the forum at a later date with a similar issue then all the info is available. -
-
@jonnykesh I did a fast read to https://segaretro.org/Extended_RAM_Cartridge, and for what i understanded, only the games that appears there need a RAM cartridge, so the Sonic R should work, but it doesn't.
-
@boltio3 Sorry but those screenshots tell me absolutely nothing.
I have never set up the Saturn in the 2 plus years I have been using RetroPie and was able to get a game running while we had this conversation.
The game I got to run wasShinobi X
just as a test.
It came as a single.bin
file and a single.cue
file. I did not put this in a separate folder. Both files were just placed in theROMs
>saturn
directory. I had to adjust the contents and name of the.cue
file to match the name of the.bin
file. Linux is case sensitive so that is always something that catches Windows users out.I appreciate you are a novice to this but you need to give relevant info if you want help. Pictures of a TV screen are next to useless.
Find a game that comes as a singlebin/cue
and post the names of each file along with the contents of thecue
file and I will have a look. -
@jonnykesh Ok, I'll search for that bin/cue files.
But i have found this during the conversation.
This 2 files are from a .zip, i can convert them to .bin or .cue, or something? Or maybe i just have to focus to find that ones with bin/cue?Edit: I have just tried the .zip with this 2 files (.mds and .mdf) and it happends the same to other ones that have (.iso, .cue, .mp3, etc)
-
@jonnykesh What version of Shinobi X have you used? (Japan, europe or USA)
-
@boltio3 It was the
(E)
so European one. -
@jonnykesh
Ok, i have this, what should i do? -
@boltio3 Wow, i put that ".bin's" files and the .cue file to a .zip file, and then i put it in the Saturn roms folder and it works!
But the music doesn't... I don't know why. (The SFX works, every time I jump for example it makes the sound) -
@boltio3 Post the contents of the
cue
file.
Do you have any otherSonic R
files?
The in-game music may well be thewav
files. -
-
@boltio3 I tried it. Managed to find, I think the same file as you but with no
wav
files.
I have no in-game music, only SFX as you said.
Try dropping thewav
files in with thebin/cue
.
As I said I'm no expert on theSaturn
I just wanted to get you up and running so you would see that it actually could work.
Try searching on the forum for Saturn and reading a bit. Have a read, your English seems more than good enough to figure it out.
Also try searching on ther/RetroPie
sub reddit. There is a lot of good info there also.

Okay so here is what I am going to assume: They work like any bin/cue image....
that being said I do not know much about Sega Saturn...but I know a TON about PSX...So first of all your cue is wrong..notice it wants BIN files NOT WAV files..soooo..easy fix there..use wav2bin..sorry I don't know where it is..a search should turn it up...
Then load the CUE file NOT the iso...from there the music and stuff should work...
you can use iso buster as outlined to combine them all into one image/file
(Pasted from the RetroPie set up wiki):"This can be easly achieved with ISOBuster (free edition) with the following procedure:
Run ISOBuster
Open Image File and select the .cue file of a game with multi-bin files.
Right-Click on "CD" (the top one on tree-structure) then select Extract CD and select RAW (.bin .iso)
Now select a path where to save the file, change from the dropdown .iso to .bin
Rename your file and add .bin at the end of the name.
Save the file, and you are prompted to save a new cue file.
Now you have a multi-bin game with .cue file, packed in a single .bin file plus a new .cue file."thus you shouldn't have to zip them or anything like that (saves on load time)

@akafox Hey this is great if it works. I tried "Sonic R"
bin/cue
but I ran it in verbose mode and thecue
file was the wrong format forlr-yabause
, which is just weird.
I know it is experimental but I was running it on my laptop.
This actually made it run, but with no background music... https://forums.libretro.com/t/yabause-core-and-cue-files-problem/3829So, removing lines from the
cue
file worked, to a certain extent...
Don't get me wrong, I have no interest in making this work for me , I just thought I would try and assist. -
@jonnykesh No problem that is what the forum is for..here to help not be a hero. If I wanted to do that I'd play Super Miro Bros. ;)
Yeah I don't have a system that is beefy enough to run Sega Saturn...wish I did..
but emulating six cpus and all the other stuff is tough to do..I have trouble running 3DO..it only had three cpus. But it also depends on the emulator. The 4D0 core runs half speed...but I use a stand alone on my system and it runs blazing at 60fps...I would like to add SS to my systems..and maybe dreamcast..but beyond that..I'm done..last system I ever owned was a PS2 (I was given a WII..I put retroarch on it..sadly my pi runs better)
Anyway that being said..back to topic...yeah that should help if you combine it..I had some psx games that gave me trouble until I combined them. Your BIOS should be correct or you wouldn't be able to load at all I think. You might try the beetle core..I hear it works good..but again I have not been able to get it to load myself. Glad to see that the sega saturn is getting some emulator love..I bet that's a pain to make an emulator for it!
-
@akafox @jonnykesh Ok... I've read all your comments, and I think the best option is to use that ISOBuster to make the .bin files to just 1 .bin file.
