Pc engine add new extension default

Thanks for that. I tried several BIOS files to no avail. Btw what are the file name types of the ISOs you use as I read somewhere that could account for this as well.
-
Are you placing the bios file in the bios folder and lSO in the roms folder with the games?
I had issues at first because I had the CD games in a separate folder and in order to get them to work, the bios would have to be in each and every game folder. Bit the BIN and CUE files loose in the pcengine folder, they load up properly.
If you have concerns about the bios file, you can select it in the gameslist to ensure that it loads (the bios we on Hue cards and are in essence a "game"
-
@mrbwa1 Still no joy sadly. Just to give you an example here my CD files are named as...
Chou_Aniki_(NTSC-J)_[NSCD2013] (both .bin and .cue)
The syscard3.pce boots up fine however (it's the CD-ROM 2 version 3.00 Japanese BIOS)
-
Make sure the CUE file references the BIN correctly also (using a file editor) - note that the filesystem is case sensitive.
-
@BuZz I'll try that. I noticed the .CUE file in notepad shows capital letters rather than a combination of capital & lower-case letters. Is that correct?
-
it matters that the bin and cue filenames match, and that the filename for the bin inside the cue match - including uppercase/lowercase.
-
@BuZz Thanks for the information. But alas I wasn't successful. Is there a better PC Engine emulator available or one that can be added to RetroPie in the future?
-
Hi,
I have about 6 PC Engine CD games and they all work fine with the default emulator "lr-mednafen-pce-fast". I'd have to check when I get home but I believe all I have is a .cue and a matching .bin, the cue references the bin exactly, and the files are loose in the pcengine folder.
The BIOS syscard3.pce file is in my /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS folder.
I did have a second copy in with the roms folder as apparently this is required for Turbo CD games, but I removed mine from here - and it made no difference. So I only have a copy in my /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS folder now.
-
@movisman Hi, I got matching sets for .cue and .bin but the syscard3.pce is a mystery as I'm unsure of what CD-Rom2 BIOS to use. I also noticed that pressing select brings up the backup menu but the Japanese text isn't display and it replaced by white bars. :)

The TurboGrafx CD Super System Card (US) or Super CD-ROM Card (Japan) are the ones that were used for CDROM Games. These are usually referred to as version 3. I have not had access to a version 2 card, so I don't have experience with that one. It may be that v2.0 does not work correctly with the emulator.
The bios file name is version specific (case is important): syscard3.pce
No other file name will work properly. You will see syscard3.pce in the games list, and selecting it will load the card and display the splash screen (the same screen is shown before a CDROM game loads).
-
Hi, I just checked this out for you now i'm in front of it - so what I mention above is true for my set up, in addition just to add some weight behind what @mrbwa1 says, my syscard3.pce version is also v3.00. So maybe you having v2.00 is no good. I would definitely suggest you source a later version.
I also confirm that I do not need the syscard3.pce in the roms directory for my CD games to work, placing the file into the BIOS folder is good enough. This also means the BIOS file doesn't appear in the rom list, which is nice. It must be named syscard3.pce though as previously mentioned.
Hope this helps.

Hi, @movisman @BuZz @rocklima2 & @mrbwa1
I just got Dracula X up and running along with a few others so thank you very much for your help. I had to rename the ISO/BIN to what the CUE file was stating and yes, it is case sensitive (even the file type) So thank you all for your help! :)
-
Hi,
Great no worries! Yes, literally everything is case sensitive. As long as the contents of your .cue file reference the iso/bin exactly as it is named, extension and all, it'll work. Glad it's sorted!
-
So iso files work then? I was only able to get bin + cue to work on PC Engine CD. Maybe I had the issue with the capitalisation of the iso title in the cue not matching, works fine on RetroArch for Windows and on my Wii for all of my PC Engine CD games, be they iso + cue, or bin + cue.
-
Yes, I believe at least one of my PC Engine CD roms is iso/cue, and it works just fine. I suspect it might be a capitalisation thing?
Cheers

Did yo have to add .iso and .ISO to the es_systems.cfg? I though only bin and cure were in there for the PC Engine?
-
I'll check my cue file for Gate of Thunder this evening. If iso is not in the es_systems.cfg, can this be added please? There are plenty of iso+cue rips floating around.
-
As far as I understand, if you have a .cue file, neither .iso or .bin need to be in the es_systems.cfg. Having those in there means both the .cue, .bin and/or .iso will appear in your games list - which looks a bit strange and cluttered. The .cue extension is already in es_systems.cfg, and that should be all you need.
I had this with the PSX emulator, because by default .cue and .bin are both in es_systems.cfg, so all the individual audio tracks (in .bin format) were appearing and cluttering up my list. I have a .cue file for every game (i managed to find an entire .cue zip on the web which helped), so I removed .bin from es_systems.cfg to clean up the list. Now my gamelist just has one entry for the game - essentially the .cue file which just calls the .bin.
Does that help?
-
It worked! I checked the cue file on my laptop and it had the name of the iso in capital letters, I simply copy pasted the iso name into the cue file and ensured the .iso extension was also in lower case. I didn't even have to edit my es_systems.cfg. I understand now that this must be because Windows is not case sensitive and Linux is.
Thanks for all your help, much appreciated! I can do this with all my Super CD isos now :)
-
Awesome! Yes that seems to be a common thing, lots of PCE .iso files have the extension in capital letters. I did the same with all my cue files, just paste the full filename into the cue including extension to ensure it is identical.
On PC Engine, neither .bin or .iso are in the es_systems.cfg by default, so you should only have one entry per game anyway, which is good. For PSX users they may wish to remove .bin/.iso from their es_systems.cfg if they are using .cue files, as this will tidy up their game list. That's what works for me, anyway.
Enjoy!
