Supported controllers?
-
I read through google that this one works: http://gaming.logitech.com/en-us/product/f310-gamepad
But, what about the wireless version?: http://gaming.logitech.com/en-us/product/f710-wireless-gamepad
Has anyone tried? Thanks.

I only have tried the F310 and it works, I am not sure about f710 though

My best luck has been with Playstation 1/2 dual analog controllers through a playstation to USB adapter. I have a single PS adapter and dual adapter. Both work fine and are plug and play.
The F310 is likely a good choice as well.
I already had PSX controllers and added a controller extension to span the living room. Not as tidy as wireless, but cheap and works every time. (my adventures with bluetooth controllers have been pretty bad)

mrbwa - do You have Dualshock controllers? Do analogs work? I am also interested in pairing the RPi3 with PSX controllers, but I've seen there are issues with doing so, like here:
and
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/1746/psx-pad-via-usb-adapter-problems
So which controller are you using? The very first (no analogs), DualAnalog or DualShock? And what adapter are You using?

I have an original PSX controller, the PS1 Dual Analog and a PS2 Dual Shock. I have the cheapo Dual PSX Adapter (there generic triangular blue one). I have only ever had 2 issues:
-
The unit was built cheaply and had bad solder joints from the circuit board to the playstation controller ports. I was able to hit them with a soldering iron and reflow them easily (If you don't have that ability, I would but from Amazon rather than say eBay to make returns easier).

You need both controllers to either be Analog or non-analog. It does not work if you have one digital and one analog. The unit doesn't care about ps1 and ps2 analog controllers being mixed though (my original PSX analog has the green and red settings, but only works on red).
There is one other thing: PSX games that are digital only require that the controllers be set as Digital in the core settings or else the D-pad doesn't work. You can easily get into the menu (I have Select+Triangle mapped for it) and change settings in a game to fix that though.
I don't know if rumble would work though, because my PS1 contraooler is Dual Analog, not the later Dual Shock (I bought it the day they came out back in the PS1 days). MY PS2 cintroller is a spacial one that doesn't have the rumble motors either (it was sold as broken rumble on eBay so it was like $5 with a controller extension cable included). Just found another controller extender for $2 at the local Goodwill store today.
The analog sticks aren't working in EmulationStation menus at the moment. I can get them to work by editing the config, but it's no biggie to use the Dpad in menus. I do have the left analog mapped to the dpad for a few systems (Atari 2600 and PC Engine mainly).
I wonder if the person in your second link had the PS3 driver loaded in Retropie. I have never loaded PS3 or Xbox drivers and the dual PSX adapter was literally plug and play. As soon as I plugged it in, I hit start in ES and ran through the on screen setup.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for a quick reply!
I've seen this adapter on the eBay, cheap as hell though:
thinking of combining two of those and getting two PSX1/2 controllers, because from time to time, I see some cheap coming around. But so far, I am only in the planning stage, I don't even have the Pi to play with (about to order - one of those who saw the NES mini and then found out that it can be done in cheaper & better way). But as a kid I played PSX from time to time, so I would love to go for the PSX controllers, ideally DualShocks.
So if I understand correctly, there is no automatic mechanism when switching between analog and digital? It's always via a config? Well hopefully it will get automatized in the future...
I see that force feedback is supported, but have not found any evidence if it works with PSX controllers as well...
If the analog does not work in the menu its OK, not a big deal... You need to advance in the menu discretely anyway.
One thing - it's been a while since I played PSX, but when You turn the controller into analog, the D-pad stops working? Or both D-pad and sticks work?

I've tried four of these PS1/PS2 USB adapters with great success. Tried 3 or 4 other ones on Amazon which didn't work with the Pi. Here's the link to the good one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000YMQGWU/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You can get the D-Pad AND left analog stick to work at the same time by adding this line to the bottom of the retroarch.cfg in /opt/retropie/configs/all:
input_player1_analog_dpad_mode = "1"
Add as many players as you want. Seems to work perfect in NES, SNES, Genesis, and Playstation games (and I'm sure most of the others).
I don't believe the dual shock vibration works in much (or if it does I just never noticed it).

So the one in the link does work or not?
EDIT: found other Your posts, so it's the working one :)
