PSX Emulator refuses to start after Controller setup
-
Im using the standard pcsx-rearmed emulator and tried to get Ape Escape to run.
I started the game, opened the retroarch menu (Select+X) went into options and switched the controller type to analog.
Since the game started to run (which it wouldn't do if it didn't detect an analog controller) but didn't recognized any analog stick inputs, i tried to switched the input device to "Retro controller + Analog". Sadly, that didn't help either. On top of that, the emulator now refuses to boot entirely, no matter the game.
Does anyone know which config file i need to edit to set these options back or a general method of resetting a specific emulator back to "out-of-the-box" values ?Thanks in advance.

Just an fyi, that is not how you change the analogs. When you go into the retroarch menu go into the first option which is quick menu. Then go into options and in there you will see pad1 type and pad two type. You can switch between analog and standard. You do not switch to retropad + analog.

@edmaul69 Yup, that's also what the wiki says. The problem is: It didn't work.
The game detects the analog gamepad, it even recognizes R3/L3 inputs but no stick movement.Im using a DS4 pad, which uses the standard "Sony wireless gamepad" configs, so technically, it should also have Analog pre-configured (works well enough in Cannonball, the Outrun engine) .
So yeah, i browsed through these options and...pretty much killed the emulator :/ And i have no clue where exactly it saved that config.

@Einherjar To get the "factory settings" back you have to reinstall the emulator using the retropie_setup.
And the analog controller issue was discussed here: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/2565/retropie-psx-emulator-only-1-controller-works -
@meleu Well...that was easy :D Thanks a bunch. I though about just re-installing the emulator entirely, but didn't want to mess up more than i already had. At least now i know that i can safely re-install an emulator should i ever mess up.
Will be looking into the analog issue once i have a little more time at hand, as it seems to be a little more involved.
Again, thanks a bunch ! -
@Einherjar about the analog, try the solution I proposed in this post:

nope. just like if you enabled analog on an original PSX controller, any game that doesn't support analog control would not work, so it will always need manually turning on/off.
as per the wiki, it has to be turned on/off in the core options (however there is currently an outstanding issue there - fix pending)

@dankcushions "pre-configured" as in "works when enabled". Im fully aware that not all games support analog controllers and lock input entirely if you switched your DS controller into analog mode.
What i meant was, that since i set up analog controls the first time i started Retropie, it should have recognized stick movement while in analog mode.
The game recognized the controller type, but not the stick input itself.Interestingly, it worked perfectly now that i reinstalled the emulator, even without the fix @meleu presented.
The only issue i have now is the same issue i have on my PC using ePSXe, meaning that certain directions aren't picked up as "full tilt" of the stick, but this is most certainly a game specific issue ^^ -

As reported here, the problem happens when you set 2 players as analog.
-
@meleu Which i didn't do the first time around.
I only set the first controller to analog, and it didn't block out the entire controller either. It just didn't recognize stick input. Facebuttons, D-Pad, even stick buttons (L3/R3) worked fine, just the sticks didn't.And by doing the exact same after the re-installation, it worked perfectly fine. So my best guess is, that sometime before, something messed with the configs shrugs. As long as it works now, im not complaining ^^

The pull request 51 on libretro/pcsx_rearmed github repository fix these bugs. no one have merge the code at this moment, i don't know when the project will make this action...
-
it hasfinally been merged! an update of lr-pcsxrearmed from source will get it https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/updating-retropie#updatinginstalling-individual-packages
-
I just receive a mail from github !
I think about my next dev over my free time :p. I have an idea but it's take time ! -
@dankcushions This case gets more and more curious :D
Im pretty sure i reinstalled the emulator "from binary" and not from source and it still worked at the end...weird.
Anyways, thanks for the headsup !
