Hopefully by then someone will have finally released a quality Mega Drive case for the Pi.

Have you seen this ? The upgrade might be closer than you think :).

I tinker a lot with new ways to play the games. I have built 3 Raspberry Pi RetroPie systems and they all work a little differently and have different selections of games/controllers. I think I have spent a lot more time configuring than playing when it specifically comes to the Pi.

However I do play games a lot. We have a lot of ways to play.

        • NES, SNES, N64, Atari 2600 and Intellivision actual consoles with loader carts. Playstation 2 with Free McBoot and HDD. Modded XBox with CoinOPS 8 (which I haven't booted since I bought it).
        • CFW Playstation Portable PSP 1000 for emulation on the go.
        • I also own a Panasonic 3DO, Playstation Vita, Nintendo Switch, Playstation 3 and XBox 360.
        • The kids(mid-20's... GET OUT ALREADY) 😋 bought their own Playstation 4 and XBox One so we have those in the house as well.
        • Due to my side business of PC Repair I personally have no less than 4 laptops and 3 desktops with emulation on them in case I get bored waiting for Windows 10 to load and update at a client's house.
        • Pile on to that is the Arcade cabinet I have with an X-Arcade Tankstick, AMD-10 3.8GHz system and massive amount of USB controllers ....

Yeah, the family games here. 😍

To kinda answer the question - A good 2-3 hours a day goes into gaming. Not necessarily the Pi box but it's all gaming goodness to me and that's what we're here for! 😄

Care to share some pictures? (including the cabinet)

Oh the systems aren't in any cabinets. 2 are in flirc cases and one is in a Super Kuma 9000 case. I was planning on an X-Arcade Solo build but there wasn't any room in the case for anything. Will be doing a Duo or Tankstick build eventually with one of them.

@classicgmr I meant the arcade cabinet you mentioned in your list. I had hoped for a nice group picture or the like. But if you don't think it that important to show, that's okay too. :)

I play at least 3hrs a day, more on weekends.

I used once to play a lot with real c64 and PC years ago, now if i turn it on 3/4 times in a month i'm kinda lucky!!ðŸ˜ąðŸ˜ŋ

@classicgmr Ah â€Ķ there lies the problem. Curiously, the picture doesn't show in Firefox on my Laptop, but it does in Firefox on my PC, although both use the same OS (Kubuntu Linux 14.04) and the same Firefox configuration and addons. (?)

Yes, I meant that cabinet. ;)

@clyde Well that's weird but glad you got a view of it. Just a generic, standard Xtension cabinet my wife surprised me with for my birthday back in 2012. LOVE IT! 😍

As a slight derail (SORRY!) I have given some serious thought to swapping out the system in there for a Pi but with all the extra controllers I have running into the USB hub then into the system, the emulators set up right, GameEx set up the way I want it... I would hate to have something not work right or even "not as well as" it does now. The heart of my emulation cabinet is an AMD A10-6800k Quad Core @ 4.1 GHZ processor with 16GB RAM, 250GB SSD OS drive, 2x 7200 RPM 500GB data drives and an nvidia GeForce GT 240 1gb. Its weakness is obviously the video card but if I upgraded that the PC would be a modern gaming powerhouse - and would be for a couple of years. That's a lot of power just to play:

THAT project would easily make at least a week or more of my life go poof!

@lurker Don't these guys know there are Pi boxes that will fit on your keychain and they can be smuggled in?!? :P

                            Too much...

That's probably due to all the drunk phonecalls you get from me ;-)

I've spent about 3 weeks trying to get an NFC tag reader to work to finish my Genesis II build. Right now if I were to calculate it all up I've probably spent somewhere between 2-4 hrs actually playing a game and 10+ tinkering and customizing.

I'm just going to leave this here.

Very interesting, thanks. In return, I'll leave this report here about a young German internet and online gaming addict. It also mentions a counseling center for online addicts and an addiction clinic in Germany.

A friend of mine went this way, too, after nearly losing his flat and most of his social contacts, including me and many of our mutual friends. Today, he's reclaimed his life, his friends, and is even in a happy relationship with a woman who he met on an annual festival for fantastic and scary movies. :)
