Not working after update all packages
-
Raspberry pi 3
Retro pie 4.4 fresh install from pre-installed SD image
usb keyboard attached
usb 360 controller attachedconfigured controller, added roms and tested and all OK.
installed retropie manager
selected core update of all packagesstated successful. Rebooted.
On login requested username and password.
entered login and password. Tested a game. The controller is now set up all wrong in retroarch game. You can't exit the game and in-game to start a new game i needed to press click the left stick using it as a button. Other game controls were right stick clicked as a button. So totally messed up mapping. Keyboard F1 to F10 keys and escape key had no effect. Could not get out of the game. Had to power off pi.
started pi up again, logged in and used menu option to re-setup controller mapping. Tested a game. start and select still would not exit the game like it did pre update. Again keyboard keys had no effect. Had to power off pi.
started pi up again, logged in. Selected raspi config option from the menu then
select option 3 in menu (Boot Options)
select option B1 (Desktopp/CLI)
select option B2 (Console Autologin)Rebooted the pi.
The pi is now stuck at
"Started Update UTMP about System Runlevel Changes..."
Tried to turn off an on a few times. Always gets stuck at this point
Do I have to start again from scratch and just never use the update option? Or can I rescue my setup?

There are 2 caveats during the upgrade
- The
xpad
driver is overwritten when you select 'Update OS packages' and should be re-installed after the update. See https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Xbox-360-Controller/#xpad-driver. - The auto-login is broken - because of Raspbian upgrades for the
systemd
. This should be taken care by the procedure you performed (i.e. enabling auto-login in Raspi-Config).
For the other errors, or why you're not stuck with that message, I don't know.
