Can't get US keyboard layout, even after tutorials and video
-
Hello, all! I'm trying to get my US keyboard layout enabled on my Retropie running on a Rasberry PI 3 Model B, Rev 1.2 (downloaded from retropie.org.uk on 10/1/18, if that helps know the version). I've read the documentation and every post I can find on the subject. The issue is, when I go to "Localization Options", then to "Change Keyboard Layout", even though I've already set the "Locale" to en-US-UTF8-UTF8, when I click "Change Keyboard Layout" I get a "Reloading Keymap...this may take a short while" message, then it bumps me back to the Configuration Tool menu. I never get a chance to actually choose a keyboard layout...please help, and thank you!

Exit emulationstation with
F4
, then run from the command promptsudo nano /etc/default/keyboard
Change the line reading
XKBLAYOUT="gb"
to
XKBLAYOUT="us"
then save the file and reboot. See if that fixes your problem.

@mitu, thank you very much for responding!
Quick question: is there any other key combination that will allow me to access the command line? I ask, because for some reason my USB keyboard doesn’t work on the Raspberry Pi, so I’m using a small Logitech Bluetooth keyboard that unfortunately doesn’t have the traditional function key row.

@hkusp45 Open the Emulationstation menu and you have a Quit option, which allows you to Quit Emulationstaion. Use that and you'll be positioned on the command line.

Worked like a charm. Thank you very much!
