        https://www.polygon.com/2018/10/29/18037502/playstation-classic-game-list-final-metal-gear-grand-theft-auto-final-fantasy

        Full list revealed.

Imo of this list only Final Fantasy VII, Wild arms, Metal Gear Solid, Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee and Resident Evil Director’s Cut are worthy of a spot on the Mini (when limiting yourself to just 20 games). I would replace all other games with something else. I'm glad I use a Pi so I won't have to deal with a console that won't let you play all the great games from your youth.

I saw a video on Youtube of two guys making a system to decide which games belong on the mini: Games could score points on number of sales, aggregated review score, user review score. Their list looks nothing like this. I don't know how they came up with these 20 games. Of course thet excluded all games with licensing issues, so they could only pick the ones already available on PSN. And then it feels like they just grabbed some games on there, without giving it much thought.

@BobHarris There are off course some titles we probably wouldn't play much and enjoy, but they are big part of the lineup and image of the first Playstation. In example Toshinden isn't a good game and it didn't aged well too on top of that. But I would prefer these games to be included. The problem here is, the limit of 20 titles. In fact, the list is pretty good in my opinion. There is almost everything, Destruction Derby, Final Fantasy 7, Rayman, GTA, Resident Evil and such classics. I think this list is better than the SNES Mini has.

But, still no Chrono Trigger. I don't understand.

@thelostsoul I only bought games in the 90s that scored an 8 or higher in the Official UK Playstation magazine. I remember many games on this list scoring lower than that. Games like Tomb raider 2, Destruction derby 2, Crash bandicoot 3, Wipeout 2097, Alundra, Abe's exoddus, Street fighter alpha 2 or 3, Bushido blade, Doom, Castlevania SOTN, Silent hill, Resident evil 2, Final fantasy VIII and IX, and Tactics and many more should be on there. Those are all true classics that are still very playable today.

Of course it's all personal preference...probably somebody out there is very excited that Mr. Driller is on the list.

Big chance it gets hacked and then everyone can get their own nostalgic highs.

Probably they didn't reach an agreement with Square Enix for it. Given they (Square) just re-released it on Steam, I guess they don't want to give it 'for free' with the mini.

So, let's count … there are 8 games I owned back then, if only in another version, e.g. Tekken 1+2 instead of 3. Then there are 3 games I look forward to try for the first time, 2 I'm not interested in at all, the rest is unknown to me. So I would call this a good deal for me, although I miss three favourites of mine: Need for Speed 1 (great 2P split screen fun), Warhawk, and most of all Wipeout! 😭 I can only suspect legal reasons for the latter, because I can't believe that they would omit such an iconic title for the PS1. Well, at least we have Ridge Racer.

And I may finally get to finish FF VII, which I stopped playing shortly after getting to CD 3 … for whatever reasons. 😒

                  Missing so many good games.

                  FFIX

                  THPS 1 - 3

                  FF Tactics

Symphony of the Night (Though probably due to low effort port on ps4)

Crash and Spyro (Also probably due to remakes)

What the hell is Mr Driller and Intelligent Cube? Or Gran Turismo?

@lilbud I actually played Intelligent cube when it came out. Basically all you have to do is blow up blocks to avoid being pushed of the edge. It had a good atmosphere, but I got bored of it quite quickly. Putting niche games like that on the Mini feels odd to me. I've never heard of Mr. Driller either. Maybe it's a strategy: put some games on there that nobody has heard of to make people curious.

I wonder if Sony are having licensing issues regarding music tracks ?
Gran Turismo games, had lots of commercial music in them. Perhaps they couldn't get a license, or didn't think the cost of getting one was worth it for the price of the mini.
I wouldn't trade my original PSX for one, or even my Pi. But it looks great, for a mini.
HDMI, isn't going to look good for these old Playstation games. Many haven't aged well even on a CRT, so seeing them all crisp on a HDTV might put a few off. Newcomers, might like it.
I'll get one for the novelty, but it will be for show only.

@John_RM_70 I'm sure Sony will put smoothing and scanline options in there. Only the really early games (1995) still look bad then.

I bet Gran turismo is a nightmare..with all the songs and car brands in there.

I also miss Gran Turismo 2. But I bet there was licensing issues for 500 (!) cars.
Btw, off course Final Fantasy Tactics and 9 are also essential games, but with a selection of 20 you can't fill it with JRPGs only. I wonder if the European version will have a different selection of games.

@BobHarris I thought the same, especially since the SNES Mini has such a mode, too. Sony would be ill-advised to omit such a feature.

@John_RM_70 The Music may be also the reason for a missing Wipeout.

Yeah, you're probably right about Wipeout. Lots of 90s dance tracks on there, many from famous bands.
Shame, would have thought the main attractions for a mini Playstation were all 3 Wipeout games, Gran Turismo 2, Tombraider 1 & 2, and so many more I can think of. Perhaps it's also the lack of analogue controllers ?

That may be, but even for Wipeout and Ridge Racer, analog controllers were optional, so …

@BobHarris there is actually more than just not falling off. You need to complete the game in the minimum amount of moves to finish it with an iq of 999. I absolutely love intelligent qube. It is a selling point for me.

@Clyde i figured that the music was most likely the reason for the omission of wipeout. Im guessing probably lag involved in those games.

@edmaul69 Lag on wipeout? Those games aren't demanding. They (XL and 3) are one of the few PS1 titles on my non overclocked Pi 3 that I can play with enhanced resolution.
It's most likely due to issues with music licensing / brand placement (Red bull). Otherwise Sony would have put them on the PSN store years ago.
But they aren't really a good fit for the PS Classic anyway. Playing XL, the only way I have been able to master the 7th and 8th circuit and phantom speed was with the Negcon. I play XL and 3 on my Pi with the thumbstick and it helps, but it's not as intuitive/accurate as the Negcon. Just a dpad would be even harder.
