@mediamogul Are you running DOTRONE in mame2003-plus? Maybe this is just an advmame issue...?

No, I'm using AdvanceMAME 3.8. The analog control options are a bit more robust there and this is a game that really needs granular control for precision aiming.

@brimys for P1 start are you using joystick mapping or ipac2/keyboard mapping? I use the mini-pac.

I have to apologize. I would have bet money that I've played DOTRONE recently, but my last play is listed as being nearly a year ago. I just ran a test game and I too am having this issue. It might need to be reported to the AdvanceMAME project, but there might also be something that can be done at a user level. I plan on looking at it more closely this evening to see. While I'm there, I'll test it against version 3.9 as well.

No problem. I didn't have time tonight, but I went ahead and compiled v3.9 so it would be ready to test.

I can't remember ever having to do this before, but the solution is very easy. Once the game is launched, open up the configuration menu and select 'Dip Switches'. From there, change the cabinet type from 'Upright' to 'Environmental'. You wouldn't necessarily think that this would affect how the coin mech emulation behaves, but once I set this it began to operate as expected.

Edit: Man, I really love this game. I don't believe I ever saw it in any arcades I visited back in the day. I saw and played plenty of 'TRON' machines, but never this. Apparently it was supposed to be one of the mini games from the first release, but didn't make the deadline. I'm glad it got fleshed out into its own game. The higher levels where the platforms are obscured by walls, shifting height and disappearing are very challenging.

@mediamogul Nice! Can’t wait to try the fix! How did you ever figure that out?

Love this game. Do you have a push/pull spinner on your setup?

I just poked around all the configuration options hoping for the best.

No, although I did consider it specifically for this game when I built my first arcade machine. With RetroPie I use a custom xboxdrv mapping for my Logitech Rumblepad 2 that allows for digital control of Tron's movement from my left thumbstick and analog control of the aiming mechanism from my right thumbstick. I also have 'block' and 'fire' mapped to the L1 and R1 shoulder buttons.
