How do I search for a topic
-
I'll assume I'm not doing something right but the search function doesn't seem to be working for me. I prefer to search for a topic before asking, I'm sure some one has already asked the question. I clicked on the search icon, the magnifying glass at top of page, first I had to log on but then when I click on the icon nothing happens, no box opens for me to type in my topic. I don't see a box already there for me to enter in first then click the icon.
Thanks

@johnl52 It's funny how search doesn't work for you, but I'd advise to use Google to search the forum content, it yields better results. Just use
site:retropie.org.uk/forum <further keywords>
and it will search within the forum topics.

Once again you answer my questions. Not sure why it doesn't work, but your method is great, I'll use that from now on.
Actually maybe you can answer what I was looking for. I did just use your method but didn't find my answer, lots of things but not what I was looking for.
Bumping your post. I understand what it is, and why you shouldn't do it, I've seen it on other forums. My problem is I don't know how it's done so therefore I'm not sure if I'm doing it. Typically after I post a topic I'll wait a few hours or till the next day. I then go into my profile, see the list of my posts and click on the latest. That will bring me into my post and I can see if there is a reply and how many views there's been. Is that bumping?
Thanks again

No. Bumping means replying to your own post - when there's no answer - asking for an update (see also here). Note that if there's any reply to one of your topics or posts, you'll get a notification in the top right forum page, next to the bell icon (notification), so you don't need to go over your posts starting from your profile, you can press on the notification icon and you'll see a list of topics which notified you (including your own).
Good forum (n)etiquette considers bumping rude unless some time has passed since your initial posts (I'd consider a day a reasonable period). -
Great, no I've never answer my own post, I do talk to myself though, no one else will listen.
I did see the notifications indicator, when I first joined the forum I didn't set up the notifications. I did so now I get an email when some one replies.
Thanks again for the help
John
