Perhaps there is a list somewhere. But I can't find anything other than the top 100 arcade games of all time. But that's not what I want. I want opinions from everyone for the top games that are an absolute must have for the raspberry pie arcade I'm building. It's a 2 player fighting stick setup with a 6 button layout. I've picked and chosen some true classics. (Street fighters, metal slug, rampage, gauntlet,) if you don't mind dropping off one or two titles I may have missed, along with the system that it originally ran on. That would be awesome! Thanks everyone.

For arcade, if you like Metal Slug you should also try out Demon Front. For fighting i really like Marvel vs. Capcom. Some Nintendo classics like Donkey Kong and Popeye is kind of mandatory :) as well as Final Fight and possibly Cadillacs vs Dinosaurs.

@RedFarmer Cadillacs is a must. Have to add final fight and popeye, Your absolutely right about marvel vs capcom. And never heard of demon front. But Ill add. Having issues finding some nintendo roms and thinking that Ill have to buy them and add manually. Is there a website that is safe to share for purchasing roms thats easy to add to retropie? Im very much new to this so simpler is better for me.

            Ill look into the megamans.

There's a topic dedicated to legally acquiring old games - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/10918/where-to-legally-acquire-content-to-play-on-retropie.

Windjammers, super puzzle fighter 2, king of fighters (i prefer the 98 version), mark of the wolves, breaker's revenge is also a really good game if you like vs fighting. If you weren't playing on a Raspberry, i would highly recommend heavy smash too, it has been one of my favorites since it was added to fba.

@ucald4amarine I assume you are interested in Arcade only. Here is a very small mix of two lists with about 10 or 12 games each. These aren't my top favorites, just some recommendations. I tried not to flood them with Shoot'em Ups and Fighting games.

You can't go wrong with neo geo for fighters, and the capcom games. So anything like the streetfighter series work well with 6 buttons, and then you have stuff like king of fighters and fatal fury, final fight too.

Definitely include Street fighter III second impact. It's the only 2D SF game with a widescreen mode and it looks gorgeous. (dont know if your screen is 16:9)

@BobHarris I am more a fan of Street Fighter 3 - Third Strike and didn't include it in my list above, because there are a lot of Fighting games. Third Strike is, probably... maybe, the best Street Fighter title, but just maybe... Edit: Oh, now I get it. Its about the widescreen support. Never mind. :-)

@thelostsoul Not just that..backgrounds, sound effects and music are imo all better in 2nd impact. 3rd strike does have more moves and characters and better balanced gameplay, but the latter is only noticable is if you're highly skilled.

I am really just looking for anything that I can put on here. Growing up I wasnt allowed to buy my own system of any kind. And it was years before I was able toget to something like an arcade system at the theater. But mine and my brothers memories of those times is great. So, I wanted to get everything I could on this system that Im building for myself, and for the one Im building for my brothers. im having some issues still with locating everything possible, (Seems that some companies are really making things more difficult... )But anythbing I can add that would be a pro to these builds would be awesome.
(These are the two Ive built so far. Just to share them.

Could someone correct me if Im mistaken. But I believe I read somewhere that someone said some steam games worked as roms. I just bought rapter, an old dos game from steam thinking that i read that and now I cant figure how toi add it. Did I make a mistake?

                                Thanks in advance.

@ucald4amarine You can play DOS games using DosBox - just install it and add the game contents under ~/roms/pc.

@ucald4amarine It can't be the 2010 edition; it has to be the dos version. I had a hard time finding Raptor: call of the shadows online (complete, not shareware version). But as it is one of my favorite childhood scrolling shooters I had to have it on my Pi..so I bought the game on ebay.

@BobHarris that's most likely the issue then. I'll have to search for it myself then, as it is also one of my favorites when i was able to play.
