    I have two issues that seem to have come together. When I open retropie_setup.sh from the ES menu it flashes up and then crashes back to ES. If I open up bluetooth or config editor a few times they also crash but then I can then open the menu.

    Once the menu is open the x button no longer works as select it now uses L1. I cant understand why the mapping has changed without me editing it.

    I'm running on Ubuntu with a standard install of 18.04.1 LTS, the only recent change I've made was to set the desktop environment to 720p instead of 1080p. Also opening retropie_setup.sh via ssh works fine.

    SETUP:
    Gigabyte Brix PC
    Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
    Installed retropie using wiki instructions

    Thanks for any ideas

      Are you running the setup script(s) as root - did you do the installation as a regular user ?
      If you exit Emulationstation (via F4 or from the menu) and then open a terminal and type the script setup command, do you still get an error ?

        I did install as root, and it works ok when I open it in the terminal (and also via ssh)

        The controller mapping is still strange (L1 for the enter/accept command)

          @kyuzumaki I don't think installing as root is a very well tested configuration, though I'm not sure if it's unsupported. I'd advise to use a normal user and don't use root to run your regular desktop - regardless if you're just running RetroPie or not.
          The setup script also keeps logs on every execution, in the $HOME/RetroPie-Setup/logs folder, you might look there for any error messages that might be associated with the script not working.

              @viviros Without providing a bit of logs, it's hard to gauge what can be causing this. Provide more info about your system (see https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first for the information you can add) and maybe open a separate topic.

                  @mitu @kyuzumaki

                  Curiously, I have something similar on 18.04.1, which is also a recent thing. I just stumbled across this post but already made my own thread with my own findings this evening:
                  https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/21139/error-and-gui-terminates-back-to-es-when-launching-retropie-setup-direct-on-machine-libudev-but-ssh-is-ok

                  Let me know if I can help grab any further information here to get this resolved.

                  Thanks!
