@pjft If you have the time, maybe you can take a look at why this happens ? Since the dev branch has been recently promoted to stable, I think the new grid view addition might have impacted how the gamelist view style is updated. I don't have so much experience with that part, maybe it's easier to spot what modification triggered this ?

@mitu I have this same issue, and switching to
Detailes shows art. Switching to Video shows only the video but no scraped art. How do I fix that?

@mitu Chicuelo. But it seemed to do it on all the ones I tried.

I add that changing the style to “grid” made my RetroPie crash.

@saccublenda Could happen because you're not using a grid enabled theme, but regardless of it, it shouldn't crash.

@A-Bored-Ninja I tested briefly with Carbon also and it seems there's something wonky either when the view style is detected or when showing the scraped image. Normally, the automatic style would inspect your gamelist and determine - based on the existance of video/images - if the video or detailed style is applied. I guess that the detection doesn't work correctly or there's something else when displaying the image.

@mitu thanks for tagging me. I'll certainly take a look.

From the description, I take it @sirhenrythe5th and @quicksilver don't have videos?

Can you update your Emulationstation binaries now ? There should be a new version available (2.8.1) that should fix the problem you reported.

@saccublenda I reproduced the crash - it happens when the theme doesn't support the new 'grid' theme. It also happens the other way around, when switching from a Grid enabled theme to another one that doesn't.
We'll see how we fix this, thank you for reporting it.
@pjft I'm going to ping you again - this time for this problem. You can test with ruckages neogeo-mini or pandora themes.

Hi, i am having the same issue of changing to grid and my ES crashing. ES is v2.8.1RP. Using the stock Carbon theme, so I assume grid view is not supported? :)

AFAIK Carbon and Carbon no Meta have not been updated awhile.
They even don´t support Videos which was implented a while ago.
So Carbon will have no Grid-View-Support.

A little bit odd in my eyes: when i switch to grid-view using Carbon noMeta, my System does not crash.
I did not try it with the latest release 2.8.1., but when i opened the thread using 2.8.0. i switched to grid -view just to test it.

a grid view was opened! In complete other Colors (light blue, dark blue and White. very basic), but it was there.
Maybe it did not Crash because there were no Images, who knows? ;)

@sirhenrythe5th Carbon supports video. As far as I know, the only grid enabled themes are @ruckage's Pandora and Neogeo mini themes, which are not in the RP list of installable themes (specifically because they only support the grid view).
