tab didnt work when the roms were in the lr-mameforall folder?
I was using 4.0-beta 2 and it didn't work in either mame-mame4all or the Arcade folder. I haven't tried 3.8.1 though if that's what you're using. It does work for you though?
Ok, here's what i did, i put in my backup sd card, before i updated the retropie script.. and i recorded a video its version 3.8.1 on the backup card. games in the mame folders will allow tab to be pressed, but it seems since, arcade folder roms, use retroarch, tab is disabled in favor of the retroarch system
here is the video

Ok, it looks like it doesn't work as we had originally thought. Thanks for the video though. Actually you can pick any MAME emulator when they are in the Arcade folder. Start a game and press a key like the space bar immediately. It will bring up a menu. Select option 1 and you can use any of those emulators. The caveat being it has to be a ROM for the emulator you choose. If the lion's share of the ROMs are of one type you can choose a default emulator and then do a per ROM basis for the rest which is option 2 I believe. That way you can consolidate all your MAME ROMs in to one folder, one location in Emulationstation for all MAME based games.
-
@Riverstorm i've tried that, with the roms in the arcade folder, setting them to different emulators, via the option menu. but the tab wont work for me that way either. for some reason, they need to be in the specific mame rom folder for tab to work. im not sure if its a directory issue, or a script issue. but for me, tab only works when the roms are in the mame rom folders.. never in the arcade folder
edit: it seems to be, because the arcade folder is using retroarch, and retroarch is overiding all settings from all the mame emulators.
edit 2: tested again, after transferring configs from retropie 3.8.1 to the updated sd card, tab now works from the arcade folder, except when choosing lr-mame4all as the emulator

no problem getting tab to work in lr-Mame2003 and mame4all-pi via arcade folder here. there's no difference in the folders unless in arcade you've unbound tab via the... tab menu :)
-
LOL, i put myself into a new issue.. argh. Now, the d-pad, which i have working as hatswitches, wont work in mame inputs. all the other buttons work, is there something i have to do, to enable hatswitches?

Same here Dank, it works fine in lr-mame2003, mame4all-pi & AdvMAME. I was just trying to determine if it was broken in lr-imame4all which it looks like it is. I opened a ticket like you said in hopes it might get fixed someday. :)

So I'm in a similar boat to others. I am predominantly running lr-mame2003 and have rooms in both the arcade and mame folder. Tab won't work for any of them. Odd thing is it worked yesterday, but last night I was setting up some games, went to hit tab and it was non existent. Tried a fresh install of retropie today and still nothing. No idea why it won't work.

@SnipedintheHead https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/lr-mame2003#mame-menu
see the note on deleting to return to default config.

You are a wonderful, wonderful man. Thank you! I have been looking everywhere for that (which says how dumb I am cause it was right there!) Thank you!
-
@SnipedintheHead that's the configuration file. I suspect you're not running mame2003 in these instances.
-
I edited as I realized I had not touched those files. It is up and working again, thank you!

nice! game on :)

Hi all,
i have retropie 4.0.2 fresh image install and raspberry pi 3 model B.
i put all my roms in the arcade folder cause i like to have all my arcade games in one place.
Unfortunatelly the TAB mame button DONT works for all lr-mame4all emulated games ( and also fba-next )
but it works perfectly in games emulated with mame2003 ( both in the same "arcade" folder ) .
Have you got any solution to show tab menu ALSO in lr-mame4all emulated games stored in the folder "arcade"?
I didnt find any.
The strage thing is that if i put the SAME game in the lr-mame4all folder and i run the game from that emulator, then the TAB button works perfectly.
Is it maybe a bug?
Thank so much for your help -

mame-mame4all
What is this? It doesn't exist. It is Mame4All-Pi and lr-mame4all. Which emulator are you referring to? On some emulators, TAB doesn't work.
-
You are right. its lr-mame4all and also fba-next. Sorry but i dont have mi pi with me
-
@superdan Well, FBA isn't MAME, so no MAME GUI on that one for sure.
-
Thanks caver,
so is actually not possible to configure mame's dip switch under lr-fba-next? -
Thanks for your replies,
The situation at the moment:
lr-imame4all -> TAB not working if games are in the "arcade" folder.
If the rom of the game is in the lr-imame4all rom folder than TAB works again but only in that emu, not in the "arcade" interface. -

lr-imame4all -> TAB not working if games are in the "arcade" folder.tab doesn't work in lr-imame4all. if you want to use tab, use mame4all-pi, also available in the arcade folder.
